Grants For African American Students
African-American students will find a wide range of grants designed to help them pursue their dreams of a college education. For too long African-Americans were under-represented in the halls of academia. But with the help of publicly and privately funded grant programs, they are beginning to take their rightful place on college campuses across the country. Over the last decade, the number of African-Americans graduating with a four-year degree has risen sharply, and dedicated grant programs for African-American students are helping more and more students of color pursue their dreams of a higher education.
Other Education Benefits For Veterans Or Active

In most cases, you can only receive education benefits from one VA program at a time. However, if you’re on active duty, you may be able to use the DoD Tuition Assistance program at the same time as GI Bill benefits from the VA.

The Action Provides Relief For 28000 Borrowers Defrauded By Defunct For
Listen to article
The Education Department said Thursday that it will cancel the loans of 28,000 student borrowers who attended a now-defunct for-profit chain of cosmetology schools, the latest move by the Biden administration to address the politically charged issue of student-debt forgiveness.
Borrowers who attended the Marinello Schools of Beauty between 2009 and its closure in 2016 are eligible for relief, which amounts to $238 million. The federal government previously determined that Marinello had engaged in pervasive and widespread misconduct that negatively affected all borrowers enrolled during that periodamong other things, that it had failed to train students in key elements of a cosmetology program, such as how to cut hair.

The National Military Family Association Scholarship

The NMFA awards selected individuals with an average of $500 to $1,000 to achieve your education goals. You can use the award for any education purposes from degrees, certifications, licenses, to technical degrees.
This program typically offers applications to spouses twice a year so make sure to look both at the beginning of the year and the end.
How To Find The Right Sources
Few college-bound students have the financial resources to pay for their post-secondary education entirely out of pocket. Even students with substantial college savings plans typically find that they are left with sizable amounts of unmet need. The average total cost of attending a public four-year college is more than $20,000 per academic year. Students planning to attend a private college or university can expect to spend more than $30,000 per academic year. A college education is a costly proposition, and all indications are that those costs are only going to increase.
With the cost of a college education continuing to rise, most students will need to consider various types of financial assistance. It is not unusual for a students college fund to be comprised of some combination of personal savings, family contributions, scholarships, grants and student loans.
When preparing a college fund, no financial resource should be ignored. Education grants are one of the most popular, and most valuable, sources of financial assistance for college students. With the right grants, students can make their dreams of a higher education a reality.

Do Vocational And Trade Schools Accept Veterans Benefits
The short answer is yes. If you want to attend and train at a trade school, almost all of them are approved by the VA and accept your GI Bill benefits. Before you enroll in any school or programs, make sure to verify through the VA the status of your benefits, and if the program you want to pursue is approved for the GI Bill.
You also need to be aware that some trade schools prey on veterans and offer programs that may not be legitimate or, in the end, wont accept your veterans benefits. Here are a couple of things you can do to protect yourself from predatory or dishonest schools:
- Check to see if your school is accredited? The leader in accrediting trade school is the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology .
- Check with the VA for help in finding a school that is VA approved. The VA is the best place to see if your school accepts veterans benefits.
Check out our Veteran Friendly Colleges Guide for more information on your veteran educational benefits and what you can expect from a veteran-friendly college.
