Your First Amendment Rights Will Be Limited While You’re Serving

5 LEGIT Reasons NOT To Join The Army/Military

Most service members easily accept this. I did. Even though I knew what I believed in, I also knew it wasn’t fair to use my uniform to push my personal beliefs on anyone else. The people who love to sell their beliefs wrapped in a flag with a pretty yellow ribbon on top will be annoyed to see that their rights to free speech are tossed right out the window.

Don’t get me wrong, you can always be an armchair activist maybe even go to a few protests or demonstrations, however, the second you identify yourself as a service member, you’ll be in deep trouble. As a military member, you’ll fight for America, but you’re not authorized to speak for it.

Still, the Army seems to favor Christianity. There’s lots of “oh, lord” this and “praise Jesus” that. This shouldn’t surprise anyone because the United States is populated by many Christians. As a Christian myself, I never did take it personally. However, many other soldiers who identify as Jewish, Muslim, atheist, etc. are forced to put their beliefs in the back seat while fighting for a constitution that guarantees religious freedom.

There is even a non-profit Military Religious Freedom Foundation that fights for the religious equality of American soldiers in the U.S. military. But don’t bring it up at any of the “prayer breakfasts” you might find yourself at. Think that was a joke? Join and see. Just don’t spill the salt.

How To Get A Dui Waiver Approved

You are most likely to get your DUI waived if:

  • You have completed all aspects of your sentence and probation.
  • Your DUI wasnt a felony.
  • No one got hurt in your DUI.

There is no hard and fast rule, however. The best thing you can do is talk to your recruiter about your DUI and ask them what they recommend. In some cases, a recruiter will take up your case and help you get your waiver approved.

Remember, what you tell your recruiter about your DUI is confidential, and they cannot share it. They are your best avenue to get your DUI waived.

You Cannot Deal With Having Little Personal Time

As a military member, you will have little to no personal time. Most of your day will be dedicated to training, carrying out missionsserving your country and people. So, it is a no-brainer that you will have minimal personal time.

Do not expect to be resting on your bed watching Netflix or putting on a face mask and chilling. Time is a luxury in the military. There will always be something to do! You are lucky to have enough time to shower and look presentable.

Plus, this will be such a normalized concept that you may even feel guilty if you actually have spare time. This is also why new recruits find it very hard to adjust at the start of their time in service. It is common to feel a sense of emptiness because you cannot keep up with yourself.

If your personal time is precious and you cannot afford to give it up, the military is not for you.

You Will Be Held To A Higher Standard Forever

The number one awful thing about the Army that nobody tells you is that you will forever be held to a higher standard!

Lexington and Concord, Gettysburg, Normandy, and all the soldiers who fought before you in many historic battles have paved the way. It is now your turn. If you think this is an honor, then you are right. What you might not know is that this is also a huge responsibility, and it will last until the day you die.

Your friends will expect you to be in great shape even after you are discharged. Your family will expect you to be calm and patient. Your coworkers will expect you to lead the way and handle stress easily. Everyone you know will expect you to win. Nobody will expect you to complain. If you oversleep, get drunk, become poor, gain weight, etc., then you will disappoint the civilians who look up to you.

This responsibility brings out the best in soldiers and veterans, but it lasts foreverâand it will never be easy to deal with.

Enlistment In The Armed Forces Is A Very Important Decision

Before enlisting, think carefully about what it means to be a soldier for eight years. Every member of the military, from the medic to the mechanic, is trained to fight and to kill, and the ongoing conflicts prove that fighting and killing can begin very suddenly. You may enlist to get job training or money for college, but eventually you may be faced with war. You owe it to yourself to think seriously about when you believe it is justified to kill another person.

Many of the details about enlistment are not well explained to people considering joining the military. Recruits may not understand the specifics of the enlistment agreement, the possibility of recruiter fraud, the limitations of college funding available through the military, and the problems faced by veterans when they leave the armed forces. It is important to learn all you can before you join. Remember that if you enlist, and decide you dont like it, you cannot quit.

Youre Not Willing To Give Up Your Recreational Vices

The TRUTH of WHY you should NOT join the Military!

Admittedly, some states have now legalized recreational marajuana usage. In the military, thats still a big no no. Any drug usage is grounds for instant expulsion and possible jail time. THC stays in your system for weeks, so you cant partake on days off, either. Drinking in moderation is acceptable, but DUIs or any signs of irresponsible drinking habits have big consequences.

Plus, if you are not willing to give up on your routined drug use, now that certain substances are legal in particular states, the military world is not for you. Do not expect to be an exception. Drugs are a no-no in armed forces life.

Youll Travel The World

Oh, youll travel the world alright. Theres no denying that. Its just that none of the locations on your bucket list match up with anywhere Uncle Sam wants to send you.

Sure, theres a possibility that youll get stationed in Hawaii, Europe, or East Asia. But chances are far better that youll get sent to the exotic Fort Sill, Oklahoma, or tropical Minot AFB, North Dakota, before going to Trashcanistan.

Youll be so acquainted with the worlds deserts that you can tell exactly where someone is in the world just by the color of the dirt and sand around them

The Worst Reasons People Enlist In The Military

  • Everyone has their reason…some are stupid though.

Joining the military is a great opportunity for many young adults. If your sole purpose in enlisting is to collect fat paychecks just know that literally everyone under the rank of general is still waiting for get-that-check-engine-light-looked-at kind of money. That being said, enlisting for cash is just scratching the surface of dumb, preconceived notions that troops come in with.

Now, dont get me wrong, this isnt meant to stop anyone from enlisting after all, Uncle Sam needs that butt in OD Green. Just know that if youre dead set on some of the following, its going to be painfully hilarious to everyone around you when the truth sets in.

Identity Theft Is A Threat To Soldiers And It’s Just As Bad For Veterans

The REAL Reasons Why you Shouldn

You might think that if you work for the Army, you’d be safe from the threat of identity theft, but let’s get honest and clear about this risk. The truth is that identity theft is rampant for service members, veterans, and their families.

If you haven’t memorized your social security number by now, you will within the first few days of in-processing. Throughout your entire military career, it will be used so often and on so much paperwork that you will get numb to it. Why? There are so many people in the military that the quickest, easiest way to identify each individual is to do so by number. You’ll notice a lot of private sector companies do this as well.

Almost every form you fill out provides another opportunity for a criminal to get your name, SSN, and date of birth. In minutes, you can become an identity theft casualty. If you’re deployed and fighting in the latest war, you might not find out that your personal information has been stolen until months after the fact! Instead of confetti in your ticker-tape parade, you’ll have bills and more paperwork to contend with, but this time the paperwork will be for all the credit bureaus and collection agencies you’ll have to communicate with to sort out your identity theft issues. Oh, and this doesn’t end after your time serving is complete. It’s just as easy to nab a veteran’s identity as it is to steal an active soldier’s identity.

But for now, a soldier must fight on two fronts: to protect his country and his identity.

List Of Cons Of Mandatory Military Service

    1. Violates Free Will One of the arguments raised against mandatory military service is that it violates peoples rights to exercise free will. No one has the final say whether they should participate or not in the military training and enter the army since it is a compulsory mandate implemented throughout the country.

    2. Interferes with Other Forms of Education Mandatory military service typically drafts young men when they are at the peak of their learning ability . This delays individuals pursuit for higher education as well as their entry into the into the civilian labor market, reducing returns to human-capital investments as a result.

    3. Put Young Peoples Lives at Risk Though you might not like to think about it, part of the process is risking young people lives at risk. Casualties dont just happen in actual combat or in the battle field but also during training and the like. Mandatory military service, which normally enlists able-bodied young people, put the next generation to serious harm and, at worst, death.

    4. Compromises the Quality of Military Service Unlike voluntary soldiers who are willing to undergo rigorous training and serve the country for a long time in the military, draft soldiers often lacks the necessary experience and preparedness, providing low combat skill quality when the time comes they are sent to war. This could lead to high casualty rate among soldiers drafted under compulsory military service.

Earn Respect And Admiration From Your Peers

I cant tell you how often my friends introduce me to others by mentioning my service in the Army.

Almost always, I get the same reaction.

Wow. Thats really admirable of you.

I never brag about it, but, to be honest, it always feels good to hear.

Not to mention, everyone always wants to buy me a beer.

    You Want An Independent Lifestyle

When you join the military, youre handing over the reigns. The freedoms youre fighting for are now for someone else, because the military will decide how much you sleep, where you live, how you dress, how long your hair is you get the picture. Individuality and freedom go out the window for the entire duration of your military career. Before joining the military, make sure those are sacrifices youre willing to make.

    Job Training College Benefits

Why You Should OR Shouldn’t Join The Air Force

The recruiter will probably emphasize the high-tech, state-of-the-art, sophisticated equipment that you will get to work with. True, some soldiers are trained for the highly skilled jobs. Generally, however, those jobs go to the soldier who was already trained, educated, and technically skilled before joining the military. Many of the high-skill jobs will go to soldiers who already have at least two years of college. And often the high-tech work is done by civilian contractors who have the necessary training and skills.

In reality, few military assignments could be described as high-tech, although many of the jobs sound high-tech. For instance, one U.S. Army brochure includes assignments with titles such as, combat engineering, general engineering, supply and service, and food service. These assignments, and others offered by the military, would likely offer little more than low skill, manual labor. The armed forces simply do not have the time, the need, or the resources to train many recruits for highly skilled work.

Studies Tackle Who Joins The Military And Why But Their Findings Arent What Many Assume

Ever since the U.S. military became an all-volunteer force, a preconception has existed among many Americans that those who choose to join the armed services do so because they have no other options.

That is the hypothethis of two studies released this year. Both debunk that stereotype, finding that the military is much more diverse and troops have much more varied reasons for signing up than some have assumed.

…our analysis suggests that, despite the increasing economic inequality and the erosion of many low-skill occupational opportunities, the U.S. military has not become a refuge for the less fortunate, write authors Andrea Asoni, Andrea Gilli, Mauro Gilli and Tino Sandanaji in A mercenary army of the poor? Technological change and the demographic composition of the post-9/11 U.S. military, a report published January in the Journal of Strategic Studies.

Another study, based on a 2018 survey of Americans, sought to analyze not only why Americans join the military, but why others think they join.

We find that, despite the reality of market-based recruitment, many Americans continue to subscribe to an idealized image of service members as moved by self-sacrificing patriotism, wrote Ronald Krebs and Robert Ralston in Patriotism or Paychecks: Who Believes What About Why Soldiers Serve, published in Armed Forces and Society.

The findings dovetail somewhat with public statements by some of the militarys most senior leaders.

    Who serves, and why?

Youll Get To Boss Others Around

If you thought that joining the military was the pathway to position where you can just yell at people and order them around, youre absolutely wrong and would be a craptastic leader.

The only way for you to actually yell at and boss people around without getting some wall-to-wall counselling from your peers is to be in a position over someone which wont be simply handed to you. Even then, no one will respect you your superiors, peers, and subordinates alike if you dont offer them that same respect.
