    Tax Advantages Of The Tsp

Since the TSP is a retirement program, it has special tax advantages. You have two basic options for investing your money into the TSP, you can pay taxes now or pay them later.

If you contribute your money into a traditional TSP plan you do not pay any taxes on your contributions at this time. Your contributions to the TSP will not be reflected in your W-2 Earnings Statement. When you begin withdrawing money out of your TSP at retirement you will pay income tax on your contributions as well as on the earnings from those contributions.

If you contribute your money into a Roth TSP plan you will pay taxes on your contributions now. When you withdraw your money upon retirement your contributions as well as your earnings are tax-free.

    Sees Value In Enrolling

Still young and with more than 10 years since exposure, Rebecca is healthy and undecided about participating in the registry. She, however, sees value in receiving updated news and information about the long-term health effects of burn pits.

I think one of the benefits of enrolling in the registry would be if some new concerns came up about inhaling the fumes or the smoke, I would be notified quickly since they have my name and contact information, said Rebecca. The registry would make it possible for VA to contact me and say that we know you were exposed to burn pits and this is what you should be thinking about now.

All Veterans and active-duty Servicemembers are encouraged to check their eligibility and participate in the registry. VA will use deployment data provided by the Department of Defense to determine eligibility.

To access the questionnaire, participants will need a DOD Self-Service level-2 logon . The DS-Logon is a secure, self-service ID that allows Veterans and Servicemembers to access several websites, including VAs eBenefits and the burn pit registry, using a single username and password. Ensure your web browser has scripting enabled.

    Getting Fit With Fitt

As a rule of thumb, ease into your activities, gradually increase each element of FITT, and end each session with a cool-down. For example:

    • Begin with a 5- to 10-minute warm-up. Walking, biking or a slow jog will increase blood flow to the muscles and lightly increase your heart rate. Follow up with some light stretching of the muscles you will be using in your workout.
    • Improving your overall fitness is most effectively done through a combination of 20 to 60 minutes of aerobic and strength exercises. The two sample fitness sessions below are based on Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology guidelines.
    • A 5- to 10-minute cool-down helps return your body to its normal, pre-exercise condition. Suddenly stopping an intense workout can make you dizzy, nauseated or even faint. Walking, biking or a slow jog will gradually bring down your heart rate and relieve muscle soreness.

    What Is The Us Army

The U.S. Army is one of six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. It is a strategic instrument of national policy that has served our country well in peace and war for more than two centuries. Soldiers enable America to fulfill its world leadership responsibilities of safeguarding our national interests, preventing global calamity and making the world a safer place. We do this by finding peaceful solutions to the frictions between nation states, addressing the problems of human suffering and, when required, fighting and winning our nation’s wars — our nonnegotiable contract with the American people.

    Requirements For Joining The Military

The U.S. military has six branches of service: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Space Force. The requirements to join are similar for all six. The main differences are in age limits, test scores, and fitness levels. Men and women meet different fitness standards. Besides the requirements listed here, a branch may have other requirements.

    Age Limits for Enlisting

You must be at least 17 to enlist in any branch of the active military. The oldest you can be to enlist for active duty in each branch is:

    • Coast Guard: 31

    • Air Force: 39

    • Space Force: 39

Some branches have different age limits for their part-time Reserve and National Guard. Visit each service’s recruiting website for its part-time age limits.

Requirements for Enlisting If You Are Not a U.S. Citizen

You do not have to be a U.S. citizen to enlist in the military, but you may have fewer options. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must:

    • Have a permanent resident card, also known as a Green Card

    • Currently live in the U.S.

    • Speak, read, and write English fluently

Educational and Testing Requirements for Enlisting

You must take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test. The ASVAB has 10 subtests.

    • Your scores on four of those make up your Armed Forces Qualification Test score. This score determines which branch you may join. Each branch has its own lowest score for joining.

    • Your scores on all 10 subtests determine which job specialties you qualify for.

How To Start A Tsp Account

All current military members will have a Thrift Savings Plan account created for them when they enter the service and process through payroll.

The government will automatically contribute 1% of your basic pay to your TSP. This 1% contribution is automatic, you don’t have to put any of your own money in to receive it. Additionally, members are automatically enrolled to contribute 3% of their out-of-pocket basic pay to the TSP each month . After two years of service, the government will match the member’s contributions up to an additional 4%. So, after two years of service, members can get up to a 5% government matching contribution on top of what they contribute each month.

The TSP allows members to invest their money into a variety of investments including government-backed U.S. Treasury bills, emerging markets, corporate bonds and stocks.

Your money is automatically deposited into a fund that contains the generally accepted mix of a balanced investment portfolio for your age. These funds are called “Lifecycle Funds”.

For more on each type of contribution as well as more information on the TSP program, visit the TSP section.

If you do not have any Civilian Education promotion points, you may want to do the Skillport courses that have ACE college credit recomendations. By doing them, you get your Military Education promotion points and you can also use them for Civilian Education promotion points.
