When Can You Sign Up For The Army

Negotiating Your Army Contract

Negotiating with a military recruiter is something that most new recruits dont bother to do, or at least not to the extent that they should. Someone interested in joining the military will either find or be found by a recruiter and are quickly swept up in the process and are signing that contract before they realize what has happened. A new recruit will feel that, as long as they get a cool Army career and cool training, theyve gotten all they want and they wont attempt to negotiate for anything better. It is absolutely important that you take the process seriously, negotiate with the Army recruiter, and take your time!

Can I Join The Army With Tattoos Are There Restrictions

Yes, you can join with tattoos, as long as they are not visible above your collar or below your cuff. The Army does not typically accept individuals with tattoos on their hands, wrists, face, or neck. Tattoos anywhere above the neckline or on the head, including in the mouth, ears, or eyelids, disqualifies a candidate. A tattoo waiver is available for candidates who have disqualifying tattoos. However, tattoos that are extremist, racist, sexist, or indecent are prohibited anywhere on a Soldiers body, without exception.

Age Requirements Are Supplemented By Education Requirements

In most cases, the minimum age a new recruit may enter military service is 17 . However, a high school diploma or GED is usually required. Some branches of service may, depending on recruiting issues at any given time, offer alternatives such as allowing a new recruit who has a GED with college credits. Having a GED may subject the enlistee to additional standards not applied to those who have high school diplomas.

If the applicant does not meet the stricter standards for GED holders without college coursework, it may be possible to enroll in college to earn additional credit hours. This may be required by the branch of service applied for so you will need to try again under different standards.

Once you have determined the job or jobs that you are interested in, talk to your family and friends about it. Tell them what youve found out and get their opinions. Its true that you dont need their consent to join, but it sure does help when you have someone to write/call back home. You never know when your family and friends will have some helpful insight in making your decision. Make sure that your loved ones realize what youre getting into and that their expectations are realistic. Explain to them the process that youll have to go through to join, the amount of time youll have to spend in training, how often youll get to come back home, and the possibility that youll be deployed. What Is The Asvab

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery -ASVAB- is an entry-level computerized test developed for the identification of which jobs or positions in the U.S. armed forces would suit you best.

The ASVAB tests several skills and abilities and is used to predict how well you will do in specific functions in the armed forces.

Every year, the ASVAB is taken by over a million high school, and post-secondary students who want to get a job in the military services. The ASVAB tests you in ten different areas, and the test is absolutely not an IQ test but is helping the Army assess which tasks you probably will perform best.

The United States Armed Forces apply high standards, also for applicants who want to enlist. Recruiters screen applicants to make sure they meet specific standards. Before recruiters will let you take the ASVAB, they want to know about your health, education, arrest record, marital status, or drug use.

You should answer all questions honestly and openly. Only when recruiters decide that you may qualify will you be able to take the battery of tests, and a physical examination is usually part of the procedure.

Recruiter Promises Versus Contract Guarantees

No matter what your recruiter promised you, if it’s not in the enlistment contract, or in an annex to the contract, it’s not a promise. Also, it doesn’t much matter what is in the DEP enlistment contract if it isn’t in your active duty enlistment contract, it’s not a promise. If you were promised an enlistment bonus, for example, it needs to be in the final active duty contract, or chances are you’ll never see that bonus. Once you get out of basic training and job training and go to the personnel office at your first base, they’re not going to give one hoot about what anyone “promised” youthey’re only going to care about what is in the enlistment contract.

In fact, the bottom of the very first page of the enlistment contract contains the following clause:

The agreements in this section and attached annex are all the promises made to me by the Government. ANYTHING ELSE ANYONE HAS PROMISED ME IS NOT VALID AND WILL NOT BE HONORED.

That said, incentives and entitlements which are available to everyone won’t be, and don’t need to be in the contract. This is because military members are already entitled to it by law. For example, medical care, base pay, and the Montgomery G.I. Bill won’t be specified in the contract, because these benefits are available to everyone who enlists in the military.

You do, however, need to make sure all of your desired incentives are included in the final active duty contract .

Can You Force Your Son Into The Military

By federal law , the minimum age for enlistmentin the United States Military is 17 and 18. No parent can take their 17 year oldchild to the recruiters office and sign them into military serviceunless the 17 year old child willfully desires to join themilitary, because The US Military is a 100% volunteer service..

Many parents threaten to take their teens to the militarythinking it will strike fear into the teen, but all the parents endup doing is looking like fools making threats that they can in noway enforce, because 95% of the teens already know that militaryservice is volunteer and cant be forced on them by parents.Theworst that such parents could do military wise is enroll theirchild into military school if the child has sufficiant grades togain acceptance and the parents have the sufficiant funds to payfor it..

So if you are the son just tell your parents to read up on theFederal law,if you are the parent then stop looking foolish bymaking empty threats that you cant enforce and find some other formof discipline to use..

Should I Join the Military?

If you like to smoke a joint once in a while, dont join. The military uses random, no-notice urinalysis, and if youre found positive, you may very well go to jail . The DOD urinalysis test can find THC in your urine for three weeks after youve smoked a joint.

Its often a good idea to bring a parent or relative with you for your first visit.

Delayed Entry Program Requirements

Most people who join the Army enter through the Delayed Entry Program . As explained on Military.com, delayed entry program requirements vary somewhat according to the service you want to join. In the Army, for example, you have options for both a delayed entry program and a delayed training program, both of which allow you up to 365 days before reporting. Initial enlistment commitments are typically three years, but the Army Reserves offers a two-year enlistment option

The National Guard has the most flexible plans for delaying entry. In addition to a Delayed Entry Program, there is a College First Enlistment Program that allows you to complete up to two years of full-time schooling with no deferral mobilization or deployment. The Split-Option Enlistment is for high school students. You can enlist as a junior and attend basic training the summer after junior year. You’ll return home in time to begin your senior year of high school.

Getting A Military Discharge

This is how you can sign up to join the NHS volunteer army ...

There is no way to simply quit the military once you are on active duty. You are contractually, and perhaps morally, obligated to see your commitment through. However, you could be discharged from duty early if you are physically or psychologically unable to perform your duties. Discharges are also issued for drug abuse, misconduct and other infractions, although anything other than an Honorable Discharge could have consequences later in life.

The DD 214 Report of Discharge is the form used and recorded by the government to discharge a service member and explain the reason for discharge. Service members receive a copy of their DD 214 upon separation from the military and can also download a copy, along with other service records, from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
