Ryan Zinke Bud/s Class: 136

President restores Navy SEAL’s rank

Navy SEAL Ryan Zinke is yet another warrior to make a name for himself after his military career.

One year after retiring from the Navy, Zinke served as a member of the Montana Senate from 2009 to 2013.

Two years later, Zinke became a Montanan member of the U.S. House of Representatives for a four-year term.

Already an impressive politician, in 2017, Zinkes political career really took off when President Trump appointed him to be the 52nd Secretary of the Interior.

Unfortunately for Zinke, in October of 2018, an investigation into Zinkes personal expenditures revealed that hed been unethically using funds for personal reasons.

The investigation ultimately led to Zinke leaving his post three months later.

The following list contains Navy SEAL ranks and pay based on non commissioned and senior non commissioned officers.

This breakdown includes ranking insignia, abbreviation of ranking, overview of the role, and minimum monthly pay. Its important to note that for each rank listed, we have listed the absolute minimum for what they earn in basic pay. Pay can be higher depending on years in service and various special pays such dive pay, and other skilled incentive pay.

How they are identified:

Rank overview: Seaman is considered the entry level of the U.S. Navy SEALs and the third lowest ranking among enlisted in the USN.

Navy Seaman are classified as apprentices that remain in training. Most of them are already part of Fleet at the time of training.

Fleet E-3s have already earned basic qualifications and understand how to navigate a ship. The experience and knowledge is helpful in this entry-level role, as well as future placement in higher rankings.

Fleet Seamen will have a number of different responsibilities within their Division. As they provide basic maintenance and watch, Navy Seamen also prepare for the role of Petty Officers.

Minimum Monthly Pay: $2,043

Command Master Chief Petty Officer

Abbreviation: CMDCM

Rank overview: Command Master Chiefs are the leading Chief on ships or shore-based units.

They are a walking and talking example for how the rest of the ship should conduct themselves. The example they establish is crucial.

Their role is part of a Command Team that also includes a CO and XO.

Minimum Monthly Pay: $5,473

Michael Murphy Bud/s Class 236

When I originally wrote this article, I actually didnt include Mike Murphy.

This list of famous Navy SEALs is based on the number of monthly Google searches that are done for each of these guys.

Believe it or not, Mike Murphy isnt searched as much as you would think.

With that said, I think its only reasonable to include him on this list, given his outstanding accomplishments.

After graduating from The Pennsylvania State University in 1998, Murphy accepted an appointment to Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL.

After being commissioned as an Ensign, he went on to attend BUD/S, graduating with class 236.

Mike Murphy was the team leader of the infamous Lone Survivor incident I mentioned above.

He was KIA during Operation Red Wings and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor due to his heroic actions.

What are the ranks in the Navy Seals?

The United States Navy has twelve different enlisted ranks.Enlisted service personnel perform jobs specific to their own occupational specialty, as opposed to the more generalized command responsibilities of commissioned officers. Enlisted Officers can apply to become Commissioned Officers, dependent on their function, performance and leadership ability this may be granted to them or not on a case by case basis.

Petty Officer First Class

Abbreviation: PO1

How they are identified:

Rank overview: E-6s represent the highest grade of Petty Officers. They serve as Divisional leadership and delegate assignments.

First Class Petty Officers primarily oversee work and only execute the most difficult and complex tasks themselves.

Mentoring is a major part of their duty as they remain in charge of day-to-day operations. They receive consultation by a Chief Petty Officer .

Minumum Monthly Pay: $2,694

How they are identified:

Rank overview: Chief Petty Officers are considered the heart of the deckplate, or ground-level leadership. The uniform resembles that of an officer, and thus are treated accordingly.

E-7s are very seasoned and knowledgeable. Their supervision includes supervision of all Petty Officers.

The training and mentoring of Junior Officers is the primary duty of E-7 Officers. The Officer and Chief work in close coordination during this training.

Each Chief represents his or her own Division or Department.

Us Navy Ranks & Insignia

In the U.S. Navy, ranks are comprised of three groups: Enlisted , Warrant Officer , and Commissioned Officers , and Admiral ranks The letter and number represent the rank title and paygrade of the Seaman. Its important to note rank is different from the paygrade and signifies the level of job duties and leadership responsibilities, designated by the insignia shown on the Seaman uniform. Trump restores rank of San Diego Navy SEAL

In May 2006 the U.S. Navy authorized the establishment of the Special Warfare Operator general rating to allow Enlisted Sailors to focus on rating-specific technology, skill sets, and training systems demanded for the Global War on Terrorism. The rating is also intended to broaden the professional development, career opportunities, and quality of service for these Sailors. This new rating was implemented in October 2006.

Eric Greitens Bud/s Class: 237

At first look, Eric Greitens is an extraordinary veteran. Greitens received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Oxford where he was both a Rhodes and a Truman scholar.

After the military, Greitens created the veteran advocacy group: Mission Continues.

At Mission Continues, he went without a salary in 2007 and 2008, when he claimed he didnt receive a salary.

After that, he began receiving a salary.

In 2016, Greitens became Governor of Missouri where he made huge tax cuts, proposed a stay of execution for a death row inmate due to forensic technology, and banned his employees from accepting gifts.

However, in 2018, a hairstylist of Greitins accused him of blackmail. The accusations against Greitens led his arrest and resignation.

While Greitens did admit to having an affair, he did not admit to blackmail, and he was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing.

The U.S. Navys SEA, AIR, LAND forces are the elite Special Operations forces of the US Navy. The SEAL teams are one of the most respected commando forces in the world they are often cited as the most elite, flexible and highly trained Naval Commando force. When it comes to Maritime Special Operations and Anti / Counter-Terror operations the SEALs are hard to beat.

Formed in 1962 by President J. F. Kennedy as a maritime counterpart to the U.S. Army Special Forces , the SEALs have amassed a remarkable history of successes and have become legendary in their exploits. The Teams have operated in every hellhole known to modern warfare and come away with many victories, some bruises and a vast history of achievements. Most SEAL missions are unreported and unknown to the general public. Due to focus, dedication, training, and an attitude that Failure is NOT an option the Teams have have been very successful.

SEALs are trained to operate in small units of one or two men up to platoon strength of sixteen. However, they work best in squads of eight or fewer. Most missions are clandestine in nature, planned in exacting detail and executed with precision and swiftness. During peacetime, SEALs find themselves with the same rigorous training as during war. Rank overview: Admirals hold the highest position within Navy Commands, or Combatant or Geographic Commands.

Like O-9s, Admirals may get selected from any service for Joint Commands, such as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff .

Minimum Monthly Pay: $16,422

As before, we mentioned that the pay listed for each rank is the absolute minimum. The big factor to influence it would be time served in the Navy. An 03 thats been in 6 years would make $6,128 in basic pay. Other factors to consider for an increase in pay would be SkIP, or Skill Incentive Pay for those that have been certified in parachute, dive, and/or demolition. This pay can range from $515 to $715 monthly whether one is deployed or not.

Pay Scale For Navy Seals


Navy SEALS are an elite navy division specializing in direct action small-scale warfare, combat reconnaissance, counterterrorism and foreign internal defense. Like all U.S. military personnel, Navy SEALS receive basic wages that are identical for every service branch. SEALS can, and usually do earn hazardous duty pay, however, and receive two substantial bonuses, the first for successfully passing the tests qualifying the candidate to enter the SEALs training program, the other for successfully completing it.

Danny Dietz Bud/s Class 232

Petty Officer Danny Dietz was part of the famous four-man SEAL team portrayed in the 2014 film, Lone Survivor.

Tragically, Dietz was one of the three Navy SEALs who didnt survivenot including the sixteen special operators, eight of whom were also SEALs, who died while attempting to rescue Dietzs team.

Reportedly, Dietzs team was on the trail of a high-level Taliban target when they were ambushed.

The four-man SEAL team single-handedly held off dozens of enemy combatants for hours.

In addition to the multiple gunshot wounds each SEAL received, the team also fell from cliff edge after cliff edge while seeking cover.

Despite the rumors, Danny Dietz didnt die alone.

Rather, he died while Marcus Luttrell was carrying him, and his body was found 6 days after the operation.

The Navy SEAL was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, the United States second-highest citation for valor.

Petty Officer Third Class

Abbreviation: PO3

How they are identified:

Rank overview: By the time most members reach E-4 they have made it to Fleet. There are a few rare exceptions, but by now most are fully trained and prepared for general duties.

E-4s are the most junior of all Petty Officer ranks. Leadership and becoming self-sufficient are major priorities of this ranking.

Members are qualified to hold watch and may also conduct maintenance and repairs on certain equipment.

Petty Officers help mentor junior Seamen to help improve their leadership skills. E-4s will also begin to attend advanced schools to build upon other skills.

Minimum Monthly Pay: $2,263

Senior Officer Vs Flag Officer

Based on the Navy SEAL ranks and pay, Flag Officers receive better benefits than Senior Officers. They are both high ranking positions, though Flag Officers are considered the most elite.

They receive the most pay of any Navy SEAL member and have incredibly diverse and important responsibilities. Senior Officers are important in their own right, serving as Division Heads and other important roles.

Seal Candidates Start The Surf Passage One Of The Most Well Known Parts Of Seal Training

Surf Passage is a notoriously challenging part of BUD/S training, as Business Insider previously reported. During orientation, SEAL and Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewmen candidates, usually divided into teams of six or seven, carry their boats above their heads down the beach toward the ocean. They must take their boats waist-deep into the water before they can get in, and paddle out toward breaking waves, which can be three to five feet high or larger.

Sometimes boats flip over, scattering crew and gear in what’s called a “yard sale.” But if teams successfully make it out past the breakers, they get to ride the waves back to shore.

Richard Marcinko Bud/s Class: 26

NSCC Training Basics

When the Navy decided that it needed a special unit to lead direct action operations against a rising terrorist threat, they called on Navy SEAL Richard Marcinko.

Thus, the infamous SEAL Team 6 was born.

But even before the legendary Team 6, Marcinko gained a reputation as a world-class killer due to his two deployments as a SEAL to Vietnam.

In 1990, after retiring from over thirty years in the Navy, Marcinko and a few fellow Navy SEALs were indicted for acts of a conspiracy among other charges.

He was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison.

Since getting out, Marcinko has written about being framed in his memoir, Rogue Warrior.

Rank overview: The Master Chief Petty Officer represents the senior enlisted person in the Navy.

The position is the principal enlisted advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations.

You’re Basically Guaranteed To Get Sandy At Bud/s Or Basic Underwater Demolition/seal Training Which Lasts 24 Weeks

BUD/S training takes place at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California.

Before prospective SEALs even enter training, they must take a physical exam, as well as a test called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery , one called the Computerized-Special Operations Resilience Test , and a physical screening test consisting of a 500-yard swim, push-ups, pull-ups, curl-ups, and a 1.5-mile run.

The ASVAB assesses a candidate’s ability to learn, while the C-SORT determines his maturity and mental toughness, according to the Navy SEAL and Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewman website.
