Oakley Si Ballistic M Frame 30

FAQ: Do I Bring/Wear Glasses/Contacts at BMT

The Oakley SI Ballistic M Frame 3.0 is the culmination of years of innovation and refinement from Oakley.

They also happen to be one of the most popular military sunglasses used.

The changes of the 3.0 over the 2.0 retains all f the best features but makes certain improvements over the last version for military or tactical users.

The frame was updated to provide easier integration with tactical peripherals like night vision equipment and communication devices.

The stems were thinned out to work better with over-ear communication systems, both in and out of a helmet.

The lens was angled closer to the face, and an advanced anti-fog coating system mitigates the fogging from reduced airflow.

Not only do they offer increased peripheral coverage and clearer vision, but the ballistic rating exceeds both the ballistic fragmentation impact standards of MIL PRF-31013, but also the high mass and high-velocity impact requirements of ANSI Z87.1-2010.

The Oakley SI Ballistic M Frame 3.0 also works seamlessly with most major helmet manufacturers.

    How Sunglasses Are Approved

Why do US soldiers wear sunglasses?

The United States Army noticed that a large amount of injuries are to the eye area of soldiers. While the civilian world has standards which are under ANSI Z87.1, the military has much stricter standards. The military standard is MIL-PRF-31013 and what it entails for sunglasses to be approved is:

    • withstand .15 caliber, 5.8 grain projectile at a velocity of 660 feet per second
    • goggles must withstand a 17 grain projectile at a velocity of 550 feet per second

So how does the Army measure these standards?

The offices of PEO Soldier are in charge of measuring these standards and supplying a list of approved eye wear. Using a simulation head, the eye wear is put on it with a sheet of aluminum foil put between the head and the glasses. The projectile is fired just slightly off center of the lens and if the aluminum is not punctured and the lenses do not crack or break, the eye wear can be approved for soldier wear. It is put on the Authorized Protective Eyewear List . Some of these can be used with prescription lenses.

    Contacts And Laser Surgery

What do Boot Camp Glasses look like?

In careers that require physical agility and athletic-like challenges, such as chasing criminals, contacts might seem more convenient. But they’re not necessarily the easier route to proving that you’re qualified to be an FBI agent. If you wear contacts, they must be soft lens, and you must prove that you can wear them without any problems, such as infection, dryness or swelling of your eye, for at least one year prior to being considered for the job. If you opt for laser surgery to correct your vision, you must complete a six-month complication-free period before you can start your training.

List Of Vision Disqualifications In The Military

If someone is considered legally blind to a point where no correction will allow them to see, this is an immediate disqualification from every branch of the military.

Being blind in one eye is also going to be just as disqualifying as if you were to be blind in both eyes.

For obvious reasons, complete or partial blindness is going to disqualify you from military service as you will not be able to fulfill the duties required by being enlisted in the military at any level.

      Color Blindness

While there is no specific standard for color vision in the military, you will be tested on your ability to perceive different colors when getting tested for the military.

The standard for color vision within the military revolves around the idea that you must be able to easily distinguish between different objects that vary in color by a significant amount.

This also means that you will need to be able to tell the distinct difference between objects that are red and green to prove you dont have color blindness.

Not being able to pass these tests or noting that you are color blind on your medical application will be an automatic disqualification for service in any branch of the military.

An astigmatism is a defect in the shape of an eyes cornea is not correctly shaped from either birth or another accident.

      Group And Individual Identity

    • Dress policy recognizes both the military requirement and the individual need to identify. A spectrum of identity exists which includes: country, environment, branch, corps, regiment, unit, and military occupation. The emphasis placed on each differs in accordance with custom. Symbols of primary identity are a military requirement and, therefore, should be provided at no cost to the individual.
    • The CAF identity system reinforces the chain of command, and strengthens organizational morale, cohesion and operational effectiveness.
    • Overlaying the organizational system is one for personal identity, i.e. identifiers which indicate personal qualification, experience, and family memberships. These include environment, branch or corps, occupation, and flying and specialist skill badges rank insignia decorations and medal.
    • CAF members are allocated environmental identity and uniformed according to the functional branch to which they belong, with each branch manned by individuals from one or more environments. In addition, Reserve members of a branch identified with more than one environment are allocated an identity on initial enrolment which:
    • for the Primary Reserve, matches that of their unit, i.e. Navy in the Naval Reserve Army in the Army Reserve Air Force in the Air Reserve, unless the initial units assignment is in the functional Navy or Air Force and

Are The Glasses Issued By The Army Considered Ballistic

Glasses issued by the army are definitely considered to be ballistic. This means that the lenses and frames have been designed in a way to reduce damage caused by sudden impacts or possible gunfire. Since members of the military enter some intense environments, ballistic military glasses aim to protect on all relevant fronts and keep soldiers safe.

      Personality Conduct And Behavior Disorders

      Airsoft Goggles for Glasses Wearers

The following conditions may disqualify you for military service:

      a. Personality, conduct or behavior disorders as evidenced by frequent encounters with law enforcement agencies, antisocial attitudes or behavior, which, while not sufficient cause for administrative rejection, are tangible evidence of impaired capacity to adapt to military service.

      b. Personality, conduct or behavior disorders where it is evident by history, interview or psychological testing that the degree of immaturity, instability, personality inadequacy, impulsiveness or dependency will seriously interfere with adjustment in the Army as demonstrated by repeated inability to maintain reasonable adjustment in school, with employers and fellow workers, and with other social groups.

      c. Other behavior disorders including but not limited to conditions such as authenticated evidence of functional enuresis or encopresis, sleepwalking or eating disorders that are habitual or persistent occurring beyond age 12, or stammering of such a degree that the individual is normally unable to express themselves clearly or to repeat commands.

      d. Specific academic skills defects, chronic history of academic skills or perceptual defects, secondary to organic or functional mental disorders that interfere with work or school after age 12. Current use of medication to improve or maintain academic skills.

      e. Suicide, history of attempted or suicidal behavior.

      Hindsight And Foresight Are 20/20

Prospective FBI agents can’t have uncorrected vision that’s worse than 20/200. The agency relies on the ophthalmologist-endorsed Snellen chart that measures acuity based on the distance from which you can see various size letters. To pass the vision requirement, your glasses must correct your vision to 20/20 in at least one eye. The other eye it doesn’t matter if it’s the right or left can be 20/40.

Can You Wear Glasses In The Military

Poor vision typically will not limit your ability to serve in the U.S. Military, so long as your vision problem can be suitably corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses or vision correction surgery.

However, each branch of the military has its own regulations regarding vision and vision correction.

For example, Army Regulation 670-1 has these and other restrictions regarding eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses worn by uniformed members of the U.S. Army:

If you are considering enlisting in the military, schedule a comprehensive eye exam to make sure your vision can be fully corrected if you have less than perfect eyesight. Then contact the branch of the military you are interested in joining to obtain the latest information regarding physical requirements and potential exclusions for service.

If you are already enlisted, be sure you know the guidelines for your branch of the military and your level of service before selecting new eyewear.

The Pros & Cons Of Non

Why do US soldiers wear sunglasses?

You can get polarized lenses on most tactical sunglasses out there. But are the mirrored lenses worth it?

Non-reflective polarized lenses cost more than normal lenses. But let you see in bright light conditions. They block out the glare. For that reason, polarized sunglasses are great for fishing, biking and skiing.

Side note: You know how the sunlight reflects from the surface of the water? That’s the kind of glare that polarized lenses will protect you against.

      Polarized lenses have their downsides:

      • They can make slippery surfaces harder to see
      • It’s difficult to see LCD screens with them
      • They can alter your depth perception

You can always get an extra pair of polarized lenses with most sunglasses and swap them out as needed to experiment.

Why Can’t I Wear Contact Lenses In The Air Force

One serious concern the Air Force has about contact lenses is exposure to tear gas. Gases can badly damage contact lenses and cause them to deteriorate, which could lead to long-term eye damage over time.

Also, the Air Force feels that the risk of blowing sand and fine dust particles causing a soldier with contact lenses to have “something in their eye” will potentially hold up a unit, which has real-world implications on the battlefield.

Finally, contact lenses require a hygienic environment for their care, and conditions in the field may not lend themselves to adequate care. This can lead to abrasions and infections, as it would in a civilian who did not regularly clean or change his contact lenses.
