Navy Reserve Physical Fitness Requirements
The jobs performed by those serving in the Navy Reserve are neither less strenuous nor less necessary than those on active Navy duty. The only difference is that reservists serve one weekend a month and two weeks a year, and active duty sailors work full-time. It follows then that physical fitness requirements for all Navy staff are the same, whether theyre on active duty or in the Reserve.

Can I Drive My Own Car To Creswell
- Specific joining instructions detail travel arrangements for new entry officers as the vast majority will be transported to Creswell by bus. You are likely not to have the opportunity to bring your own vehicle on board Creswell initially and not until you have completed your Initial Training Period.

Ears Nose Speech And Throat
There should be no hearing issues, discharge or illness in either ear. You should be able to hear a whisper at a distance of 5 meters on each side without using hearing aids. There should not be any illness of the bones and cartilage of the nose, or disease of the throat, palate, tonsils, or gums. There should be no speech impediment or disability, such as severe stammering or a noticeable lisp.
Navy Physical Fitness Requirements
To join the Navys ranks, youd need to complete a swim test, a body composition assessment, and the Navy Physical Readiness Test .
According to the Navy PRT Guide, this physical fitness test evaluates aerobic capacity, or cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, and muscular endurance.
The requirements to pass the PRT at Navy boot camp include sit-ups, push-ups, and a run. These are based on age and gender and include the following:
Men entering Naval Service ages 17-19
- 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
- 42 pushups in 2 minutes
- 5 mile run in 12:30
Women entering Naval Service ages 17-19
- 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
- 19 pushups in 2 minutes
- 5 mile run in 15:30
Additionally, the Navy has whats known as the Navy Third Class Swim Test, taken during boot camp. The swim test consists of:
- A 5-foot minimum jump into a pool thats at least 8 feet deep
- A 50-yard swim without stopping, standing, or holding on to the sides of the pool
- A 5-minute prone float
And just in case you want to be a Navy SEAL, youd need to complete the following:
- 500-yard swim within 12 minutes, 30 seconds
- 42 push-ups in two minutes
- 52 sit-ups in two minutes
- 8 pull-ups without touching the ground or letting go of the bar
- 5-mile run in 11 minutes, 30 seconds

Military Physical Test Requirements For Each Branch In 2022
Each branch of the U.S. Military requires physical fitness tests of its members.
This is an integral part of members health and wellness, as well as overall military training and job specialization.
In addition, each branch designates passing standards for their personnel when performing these tests to remain in good standing.
If you are considering joining one of the military branches, this article offers a comprehensive summary of each fitness test and its requirements.
Recently, the Army has implemented the ACFT .
This test is designed to assess a broader scope of physical fitness among soldiers.
In addition, it offers practical applications for combat readiness.
The former version of the Army fitness test primarily measured muscle and aerobic endurance.
Currently, the ACFT measures ten areas of fitness:
- Muscle strength
- Reaction time
The ACFT is made up of six field events that soldiers must perform in a specific order.
The whole test takes just under an hour to complete.
Active-duty soldiers take the ACFT twice per year.
Each soldier is required to pass the same six individual events that make up the ACFT.
If a soldier does not achieve a passing standard for one or more of the events, then they will not pass the ACFT as a whole.
However, a soldier must complete the entire fitness test regardless of any individual failing score.
The maximum score for each event is 100 and the typical minimum passing score is 60 per event.

The Royal Navy Fitness Test
On 1 April 1999 the Royal Navy Fitness Test was introduced for all RN and QARNNS personnel. Beginning with personnel under 25 years old, it has progressed annually to include additional 5 year age groups. Within DNPTS, the RNFT Office is responsible for developing, monitoring and implementing RN Fitness Testing policy, procedure, protocols and standards across the RN.
The RNFT is a health-based test, which is both age and gender fair . Testing is conducted and recorded solely by Service PTs. Where logistically possible, individuals are allowed to choose between either of these two tests:
- The Multi Stage Fitness Test .
Personel over the age of 40 may do the Rockport Walk Sub-maximal test instead of one of the above.
There is also a strength test. A simulated AFFF drum carry of 2x20Kg to be carried 4x15m shuttle, with the weights to be placed down at the end of each shuttle.

Navy Basic Training Graduation
At the end of week 8 of Navy basic training, youll attend Pass-in-Review, which is your official graduation ceremony where you can finally call yourself a sailor. HOOYAH!
Recruits families can attend the Navy basic training graduation ceremony, provided they fill out the guest security access form and pick up their tickets at the welcome center during the week leading up to graduation. Each recruit is only allowed to invite two guests to the Navy basic training graduation ceremony.

Generally, the graduation ceremony will be scheduled as follows:
- 6:30 a.m.: The gate opens to guests.
- 7:00 a.m.: The ceremonial drill hall doors open to all guests.
- 8:45 a.m.: Guests should be seated at this time. Doors close, and no one else will be allowed to enter.
- 9:00 a.m.: The graduation ceremony begins.
- 9:20 a.m.: Divisions arrive.
- 10:30 a.m.: The graduation ceremony ends.
Week : Classroom & Battle Stations
Week 7 is rigorous. Its full of academics. During this week, youll be sharpening your mind in the classroom and learning more skills. This all leads up to the big event of basic training. Its called Basic Training: Battle Stations. It is a culmination of everything you will have learned up to this time.
Battle Stations is an intensive 12-hour simulation that makes you rely on your swimming, survival instincts, teamwork skills, damage control, rescue abilities, and more. The simulation will have you in a replica of a guided missile destroyer responding to an attack at sea with your fellow recruits. This event is not to be taken lightly.

Navy Physical Readiness Test Overview
NOTE: As of 2020, the Navy will make a few changes in the physical fitness assessment . Sailors no longer will be doing crunches for two minutes, and there will be a change to the way push-ups are done. Also, on the option list, a bike or rowing test can replace the running test. More details on the standards of passing and maxing these new changes will be later updated with new charts. Crunches are now plank pose, and push-ups are cadence push-ups.
The Navy physical readiness test consists of push-ups, curl-ups , and either running or swimming. In basic training, swimming is not an option. All boot-camp recruits are measured by performing push-ups, curl-ups and running 1½ miles.
Navy physical readiness test breakdown
Event consists of running 1.5 miles as quickly as possible. Any combination of running or walking is allowed to complete event.
Your score is based on how many curl-ups you can do correctly in two minutes. Resting is permitted.
Your score is determined by how many push-ups you can complete in two minutes. Resting is permitted but only in the up position.
The Navy PFT score is found by averaging the scores of the three fitness events.
For example, let’s say a 25-year-old woman does 91 curl-ups , 26 push-ups and completes the 1.5-mile run in 15:23. This is worth 85 points for the curl-ups, 65 points for the push-ups and 55 points for the running event.

Why The Navy Physical Readiness Test
Navy literature includes complaints that much training time is lost because prospective Sailors arrive at boot-camp without the minimum level of strength and endurance.
New recruits are urged by Navy recruiters to enter into a physical fitness program prior to shipping out for basic training, but these programs are voluntary. That includes those who are enrolled in a Delayed Enlistment program . DEPers, as they are often called, must ensure they are physically ready for boot camp, but they will not be forced by the Navy to participate in formal diets, exercise plans, etc.
Navy recruiting pamphlets remind recruits that all new arrivals to boot camp are required to complete an initial 1.5-mile run. Failure to pass the run means getting retested in 48 hours but in cases where a retest is also failed the recruit is discharged with an entry-level separation which is a non-punitive discharge, but final.
The standards for passing that initial 1.5 mile run?
- Male recruits: Complete the run in 16 minutes, 10 seconds or better
- Female recruits: Complete the run in 18 minutes 37 seconds or less
Keep in mind that this PRT and its standards are NOT those for the Navy Physical Readiness Test. Well cover those requirements below. The 1.5-mile initial run is meant to screen new recruits for further attention regarding fitness requirements but does NOT represent the entire PRT.

Passing The Navy Swim Test
During the first week of basic training, you will also have to pass a Navy 3rd Class Swim Test. If you can’t swim, don’t worry. The Navy instructors will teach you how . Obviously, this is going to be a crucial skill to have in a branch of the service where you’re likely to see a fair amount of time at sea.
In order to graduate from Navy basic training, you must score at least a “Good ” score on the normal Navy Physical Readiness Test . For men age 17 through 19, that means 62 sit-ups, 51 push-ups and running 1.5 miles in 11 minutes. For women in this age bracket, they’ll need to do 62 sit-ups, 24 push-ups and 1.5 miles in 13 minutes, 30 seconds.
Initial Navy Fitness Assessment
Future Sailors must be physically prepared for the rigors of boot-camp. Too much training time is lost because prospective Sailors arrive at boot-camp without the minimum level of strength and endurance. The responsibility of ensuring you meet the standards is yours. To ensure you meet the standards when you arrive at boot-camp, adopt a healthy lifestyle which promotes proper nutrition and daily exercise.

Other Rules For The Navy Prt
These two rules are designed to help sailors with the PRT:
- If you experience unusual distress or fatigue during the test, members will be directed to seek medical attention and may subsequently be authorized a Bad Day makeup before you complete or fail the test. This keeps you safe by letting you to retake the test after being medically cleared.
- If you pass the body composition assessment and score an overall excellent low or better on the physical readiness test, you may have the opportunity to be validated on the subsequent Physical Fitness Assessment cycle and skip the PRT, if you pass the BCA and are within the age-adjusted standards.
What About My Hair And Beard
Grooming standards in the Navy exist to promote neatness, cleanliness and safety.
Men are expected to keep their hair short and neat.
A religious accommodation request can be submitted for personnel to wear a beard.
There is no requirement for women to cut their hair short. Short hair is permitted to be worn down if it falls above the collarbone. Long hair is expected to be pulled back in a bun, ponytail, braids or corn rows.

Coast Guard Physical Test Requirements
Members of the Coast Guard must take physical fitness assessments as part of their training and job requirements.
The key factors determining physical fitness in Coast Guardsmen are:
- Aerobic capacity
- Muscular endurance
Aerobic capacity is an indicator of cardiovascular fitness.
This component is considered most related to health as well as the ability to perform vigorous and/or sustained physical activity.
The Coast Guards Physical Fitness Assessment consists of the following tests:
- Push-ups: This is a one-minute test in which members must do as many push-ups with proper technique as possible. The minimum standard for men is 29 and for women is 15.
- Sit-ups: This is a one-minute test in which members must do as many sit-ups with proper technique as possible. The minimum requirement for men is 38 and for women is 32.
- 5-mile run: This is a timed run with a distance of 1.5 miles on level ground. Men must complete the run no slower than 12:51 minutes and for women no slower than 15:26 minutes.
- Swim circuit: In this test, participants must jump from a 1.5-meter platform into water and swim 100 meters without assistance.
The Coast Guard PFA may also require members to take a treading water test and/or perform a Sit and Reach exercise.
The Sit and Reach exercise is a flexibility test in which men must meet a standard reach of 16.5 inches and women must reach 19.29 inches.
These screenings and assessments are designed to ensure health and fitness for Coast Guardsmen.
How The Navy Prt Works
What is the Navy Physical Readiness Test? The PRT measures muscular endurance and aerobic capacity. It also includes a body composition assessment measuring height/weight, abdominal circumference and body fat. The PRT is conducted twice a year for all active-duty and reserve sailors, and recruits at boot camp are also tested.
The PRT has three events: curl-ups, push-ups and a 1.5 mile timed run. The alternate cardio options to the 1.5 mile outdoor run/walk include the following: a timed 500-yard swim, 12-minute stationary cycle, or 1.5 mile run/walk on a treadmill. Alternate cardio is permitted at the discretion of your commanding officer.
- 1.5-mile run: Run 1.5 miles as quickly as possible.
- 500-yard swim : Swim as quickly as possible.
- Stationary cycle : Burn as many calories as possible in 12 minutes.
- 1.5-mile treadmill: Run/walk for best time.
- Curl-ups: Do as many curl-ups as you can in two minutes.
- Push-ups: Do as many push-ups you can in two minutes.

What To Wear To Basic Training Graduation
You can wear just about whatever you want to basic training graduation. Wear something nice enough so as to not embarrass your recruit, but there are no policies enforcing strict dress codes for suits, dresses, or anything else.
Business casual is always a pretty safe bet if youre unsure!
Remember: Its cold pretty much year-round up there in the Great Lakes, so regardless of your attire, you may want to pack an extra jacket or sweater!
