If your weight exceeds the maximum limit provided for by the U.S. Army, then the MEPS officials may opt to carry out body fat percentage tests before giving you the go-ahead to be a recruit.

French Foreign Legion Height And Weight Requirements

What are the height and weight requirements for joining the French Foreign Legion? Believe it or not, the Foreign Legion has NO height or weight requirements nor official limits. The only aspect the Legion takes into account is your Body Mass Index , which can simply be calculated using your height and weight.

The BMI easily determines whether you arent obese or skinny. If you would like to enlist in the Foreign Legion, your BMI must be between 18 and 30. That means the minimum BMI number has to be 18, and the maximum cannot exceed 30. These are the only height and weight requirements you need to meet to join the Legion.

How to calculate your BMI? Take your body weight and divide it by the square of your body height .

The square of your body height refers to: x = ??? .

It is much better to be over your minimum BMI or under your maximum BMI to not be stopped from joining the Foreign Legion and getting a chance to be selected.

B3 Description Of Circumference Sites And Their Anatomical Landmarks And Technique

a. All circumference measurements will be taken three times and recorded to the nearest 12-inch . Each sequential measurement will be within 12 inch of the next or previous measurement. If the measurements are within 12 inch of each other, derive a mathematical average to the nearest 12 of an inch. If the measurements differ by 12 inch or more continue measurements until you obtain three measures within 12 inch of each other. Then average the three closest measures.

b. Each set of measurements will be completed sequentially to discourage assumption of repeated measurement readings. For males, complete 1 set of abdomen and neck measurements, NOT three abdomen circumferences followed by three neck circumferences. Continue the process by measuring the abdomen and neck in series until you have three sets of measurements. For females, complete one set of neck, waist , and hip measurements, NOT 3 neck followed by three waist , and so on. Continue the process by measuring neck, waist , and hip series until you have 3 sets of measurements.

c. Sample worksheets and instructions for computing body fat are at figures B1 and B2 and figures B3 and B4 . Percent fat estimates are show in figures B5 and B6 .

d. Illustrations of each tape measurement are at figures B7 and figure B8 . A training videotape is also available at Visual Information Libraries and/or Training Audiovisual Support Centers.

Why Are There Weight Limits

Weight limits in the Army are there to ensure that everyone is as physically fit as can be. With over 250,000 people to keep track of, ensuring that everyone is of a healthy weight is a good indicator of someones overall health. Given that most Army jobs require lots of strength and mobility within confined spaces such as within an aircraft or tank, being overweight will simply prevent someone from doing their job. Moreover, Infantry positions require someone to carry heavy backpacks, which can damage someones bones if theyre overweight. Finally, the Army likes to simplify things such as with equipment and uniforms. Ensuring that everyone is within the same percentile of weight range allows for this simplicity to continue.

Height Exemption For Growing Recruits

Military Monday: Army Height Weight Standards || Am I To Over Weight To Join The U.S. Army #Army

As we noted earlier, there are some exemptions to the physical requirements to enter the military. This is tied to the age of the applicant since some 17-year-olds can enlist with their parents approval.

Underage applicants that pass the entry process cannot be disqualified for growing beyond the required height range. However, your height can limit jobs that have height restrictions.

There are several notable cases of military youth growth exemptions, for example, basketball star David Robinson who in his first four years of service exceeded 80 inches in height. While playing professional basketball, he continued on active duty and later served in the Naval Reserve!

Army Height And Weight Rules For New Recruits

The same basic standards may apply to new recruits as for currently serving military members, but the process for dealing with future soldiers who dont currently meet physical standards is obviously quite different than for those who have already completed basic training.

New recruits who are assessed as not meeting Army physical standards including height/weight issues will be given an opportunity to come up to those standards through organized fitness programs and other means.

The biggest difference for recruits is that meeting the Armys standards here is the gateway to starting a military career for those currently serving those standards must be met in order to continue serving.

Army Height Minimums And Maximums

According to the United States Army official site for recruiting, the height range for new recruits starts at 50 and ends at 68 for men and 410 to 68 for women. This is the range specified on the Army official site that displays its height and weight calculator. The minimum age for these requirements is 17.
