How Do I Pass The Math Asvab

I tried the *US Army Fitness Test* without practice (CHALLENGE)

Here are some tips to help you pass the math subtests of the ASVAB exam.

  • Know the order of operations. This concept will haunt you throughout the test if you dont have it down.
  • Memorize formulas. As part of your ASVAB test prep, commit key formulas to memory. Quick recall of formulas can speed things up so that youre not pressed for time when you take the actual test.
  • Use pencil and paper. Avoid common mistakes by writing down the steps as you work each problem. All the ASVAB prep in the world wont help if you try to do everything in your head.
  • Plug in the answer choices. As a last resort on more difficult problems, substitute each answer choice back into the equation to see if it works.
  • It Takes A Lot Of Studying

The ASVAB test is challenging because of how much work goes into passing the exam.

Many students take the test in high school, so the skills are likely fresh in mind.

However, not everyone is up on their skills, even if they take it right out of high school.

The ASVAB measures knowledge in specific areas, and it also determines your aptitude for military jobs.

Areas of study include arithmetic, knowledge of mathematics and equations, paragraph and word comprehension, mechanical skills and understanding, and science.

Many test takers have a goal in mind and want a high score because of their career plans and need to plan in advance to study multiple subjects.

When you take the ASVAB test, it is possible not to score high enough to qualify for service or the job you want.

Also, retaking the ASVAB is not always possible.

ASVAB test scores are good for two years if you are not in the military.

Therefore, once you join the military, your scores are a part of your record for as long as you serve.

If you take the ASVAB test and do not like your score, you can retake it after 30 days.

If, after the retest, you do not like your score, you must wait six months before a third attempt.

However, this retesting cannot continue if you are a member of the armed forces.

Furthermore, the military branches have their own rules for retesting.

The Army does not allow retesting to raise the score to qualify for enlistment bonuses.

Five Tips On How To Do Well In Army Aptitude Tests

    1. Practice

Practising is the single best way you can improve your scores in your army application. Dedicating time to work through aptitude tests, practice questions and similar puzzles will improve your speed and accuracy as well as instil you with confidence on the day.

    2. Get used to the question style

Many of the instructions on the test are given on the screen briefly before disappearing. Practice repeating statements to yourself, so you get in the habit of memorising whats asked of you.

    3. Think laterally

Simply repeating past tests can get a little dull. If you need variety in your preparation, find online games that test your memory, puzzle books that require mathematical skills, or get people to quiz you on passages from books youre reading.

    4. Get used to exam conditions

Every time you take a practice test, its important to do so in exam conditions. This means timing the test, ensuring youre working in a quiet, well-lit space and resisting the temptation to look anything up.

    5. Focus on the end goal

The better you do, the more opportunities youll be given in the army. Preparing for the aptitude tests may seem like a lot of work, but it could change the course of your life. So its worth it.

    Barb Test Odd One Out

This part of the BARB test judges your ability to spot the odd one out. The army recruiters want to know that you can interrogate information and quickly draw the correct conclusions.

Three words will appear on your screen.

Lets use these as an example: SEAT SING CHAIR

Your task is to see which two words are related in some way. In our example, SEAT and CHAIR are related to each other meaning that the word SING is the odd one out. You will have to select the odd word as your answer, not the related words.

As with all parts of the BARB test, your speed is as important as the correct answer. Getting 100% correct will mean nothing if you take ages to answer! You must get your speed up. Remember, practise, practise, practise.

How Hard is the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)? | Joining The Army (2018)

For the maths test of the ADF Aptitude Test, youll need to know a few things .

Here are basic things you should be able to do:

    • Basic addition, subtraction, division, multiplication.
    • Calculating change.
    • Percentages and fractions.

Here are some math concepts that are a bit harder :

    • Trigonometry maths to do with triangles
    • Problem solving figuring our what maths to use to solve a worded problem
    • Geometry especially formulas to do with circles
    • Polynomial equations
    • Algebra – thats using symbols to represent things that are unknown and then working through them
    • Rearranging algebraic equations

Heres an example of a very similar maths question that may appear in your ADF Aptitude Test:

If it takes 200 people 3 days to dig a 120-metre hole, how many people are required to dig the same hole in ½ a day?

Well, there is a quick way and heaps of long ways. Most people will do the long way and theyll lose time on other questions so its better to do it the short way.

    Heres the short calculation:

    • 200 x 3 = 600 people days.
    • If ½ a day, then 600 people x 2 = 1200 people.

    Easy!

Heres how someone worked it out the long way:

    • 200 people can complete only 1/3 of 120 metre hole which is 40 metres a day.
    • 200 people for a 1/2 day would then only do 20 metres.
    • Therefore, in ½ a day, if you wanted to get 120 metres done, youd have to * increase your number of people by 6 times.
    • Therefore, 200 x 6 = 1200 people would be needed.

    Getting Ready To Train

An excellent way to determine your fitness level is to undergo a fitness appraisal.

Talk to your doctor before starting a fitness routine or appraisal, particularly if you have a heart condition, feel chest pain, lose your balance or consciousness, have a bone or joint problem, or take drugs for a blood pressure or heart condition. Tell your doctor about the kinds of activities you want to do and follow his or her advice.

    The Medicine Ball Throw

Can Spec Ops Pass The Hardest Army Combat Fitness Test?

Sitting with your back against a wall, you’ll throw a 4kg medicine ball as far as you can. Your best throw of three will count. You must throw at least 2.7m to meet the lowest soldier entry standard. Some trades will need you to throw the ball 3.1m.

Why test your seated throw? The seated ball throw measures your upper-limb explosive strength. This is an important part of fitness, and is essential of being able to perform many military tasks well.

    Submit Your Application 4medical Exam

You will then take a two part medical exam: First there is a questionnaire on your medical history including specific information on your medication. Then the medical staff will conduct a physical exam to measure your height, weight, evaluate your vision, colour perception and hearing. The second step is a medical file review to determine any limitations that will affect your training and career.

    Focus On Your Weaknesses

Focus on the four essential sections, those critical to the AFQT score, first. From the example above, it seems that your verbal abilities are at least OK: you gave yourself a four on the word knowledge section and a three on paragraph comprehension. However, your math skills could use some work — especially with mathematics knowledge, as you only have a skill level of two. This tells you that you’ll have to work extra hard on the math sections.

After you know the problem, the solution will come much easier. In the example above, you probably would want to spend about 60% of your time with math studying and about 40% with verbal. If you are really ambitious, you could throw in some studying time for the nonessential sections — GS, AS, MC, EI. An hour-a-day study schedule might look something like this:

    Day
Sunday7-8 p.m.Review any trouble spots you had. Maybe take a practice test to see how you’ve improved!

What’s the most important day out of the above? Hands down, Sunday. Review is essential if you want to make progress. If you never review what you’ve done, how will you know whether or not you’ve improved?

General Study Tip: Developing good study habits is key for lifelong achievement and not just testing.
