Placement Exams To Test Out Of Classes

How do I request TUITION ASSISTANCE in the Army (w/GoArmyEd)?! | #MissDreeks

Most colleges allow incoming students to take exams to test out of entry level classes for credit. Completion of these exams for introductory classes with a passing grade will earn the student full credit for the course. This can reduce the number of required classes needed to complete your degree. CLEP and DANTES tests are an exception to the testing fees rule and are covered by Tuition Assistance.

Two: View Your Education Path

To access your Education Path, click the Education Path tab.

The Education Path tab displays all requests and completed Education Paths, including the status of each. Scroll down to view the page.

  • Clicking Edit allows you to revisit your Education Path request and make any changes, as needed. Once the Education Path is re-submitted, your Army Education Counselor will be notified and will need to re-review the request.
  • Clicking View Courses allows you to view all of the courses for which you have requested Tuition Assistance, as well as your Cumulative Army TA GPA.
  • Clicking View SDP allows you to view your current Student Degree Plan and any previous Student Degree Plans.

How Army Tuition Assistance Works

The process is not that hard to understand. If you want to study in college, which participates in the Army TA program, it is pretty easy to go through the process.

First, you need to send a request to the Army regarding the case. You can go to the www.GoArmyEd.com to notify them. You need to do this prior to the time when the semester starts. Do not be late because regardless of the excuse, you will not be able to get Army TA. So, the first part is very crucial.

Teaching Assistance requests should include the course by course details. You need to choose the courses and mention them on the application. Try to write it carefully because if there would be any error regarding the course code or name, you will not be able to get the benefit.

How Do I Qualify For Ta Benefits

Its pretty simple really as long as you meet the eligibility guidelines outlined above, youll qualify for TA. If youre an enlisted service member, you get TA Army benefits without having to do anything special, but if youre an Officer, then you will have to pay back the Army with some additional service time.

    • Active Duty Officers incur an Active Duty Service Obligation of two years
    • Reserve Component Officers incur a Reserve Duty Service Obligation of four years

The ADSO/RDSO gets calculated from the date of completion of the last course that TA was used to pay for, meaning that it can seem a whole hell of a lot longer than it actually is. Be careful about what you agree to here, as the limitation of $4,500 per fiscal year can mean youre sacrificing a lot of money if you had an opportunity to get a significant pay increase by leaving the Army.

Unless youre sure that you want to stay in, and positive that you want to COMPLETE an education program, dont start taking TA, because even if you only use a tiny bit of it, youll get stuck with that ADSO/RDSO, and it wont be worth your time.

Ill mention it again here just in case you missed it above ENLISTED PERSONNEL you dont have to worry about any extended service contracts or additional obligations, you can take and use TA with no strings attached.

    How Much Can I Get

The Army TA Program offers up to $4,000 per fiscal year in tuition assistance benefits, but its also limited by a semester credit hour cap of $250 and a quarter credit hour cap of $166, meaning that if you attend an extremely expensive school , youll be forced to foot that part of the bill yourself.

TA benefits will cover up to, but not exceeding:

    • $4,000 per fiscal year
    • $250 per semester credit hour or $166 per quarter credit hour
    • 130 semester hours of undergraduate credit or baccalaureate degree
    • 39 semester hours of graduate credit or masters degree

For your reference, the fiscal year will run from October 1st, through September 30th, so use those dates to plan your educational expenses or you could end up owing some money out of pocket.

To prevent yourself from paying out of pocket expenses, we suggest attending a public school , since they tend to have significantly lower costs than private schools.

We would also recommend staying away from any of the really big advertisers too, as these schools are typically extremely expensive .

Dont forget that your TA benefits are limited to 130 semester hours of undergrad credit or baccalaureate degree program credit, whichever comes first, and 39 semester hours of graduate credit or masters degree program credit, again, whichever comes first.

In the case of the graduate/masters credit limit, the semester hour limit applies to all credits taken after youve completed your undergraduate degree .

    Eligibility For Army Ta

One of the most significant changes regarding the Army TA was the eligibility criteria. The old rules for the soldiers were:

Students should complete one year AIT by the time they apply for army TA.

Students could use this program for Graduate level education unless they used it for a bachelors degree. If they studied a 4year bachelors degree with Army TA benefits, then those soldiers need to wait until they have at least ten years of experience in active duty service.

Tuition Assistance Versus The Department Of Veterans Affairs Education Benefits

While the TA program is offered by the services, the Department of Veterans Affairs administers a variety of education benefit programs. Some of the VA programs, such as the Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008, also known as the Post-9/11 GI Bill, can work well with the TA program, as it can supplement fees not covered by TA. In addition, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® funds are available to you after you leave the military. If your service ended before Jan. 1, 2013, you have 15 years to use this benefit. If your service ended on or after Jan. 1, 2013, the benefit wont expire. The TA program is a benefit that is available only while youre in the service.

    How Much Can You Get

As we already mentioned, Tuition assistance provides soldiers with $4000 per year. You can get 250 dollars per SH and $166 per Quarter CH. 130 bachelor and 39 graduate SH can be included in your program. In order not to spend much from your pocket money, we recommend you to choose wisely when it comes to colleges. It is better to attend public colleges because their tuition fee is considerably lower than in private schools.

What Can You Use Tuition Assistance For

    • TA provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs, which includes both classroom and online options.
    • You must use Tuition Assistance for a certificate program, associates degree, bachelors degree, or a masters degree. TA is not authorized for programs beyond a masters degree.
    • You may only use TA to work on one degree or certificate at a time.

    Army Tuition Assistance Rates

The Department of Defense is working on new campaigns to help military personnel get educational benefits. For now, rates can be different for each branch of the Army. However, a standard feature for all of them is the total price of the tuition aid, which is $4500 per year at maximum. How are the rates calculated? In general, the Army grants $250 for one credit hour, and military personnel have the chance to get up to 16 credit hours per semester. In some of the branches such as the Air Force, servicers have slightly more generous benefits rather than Army soldiers, etc.

Students Can Be Forged By The Sea

The Navy has a slightly different application process from the Army and National Guard. To begin, sailors must inform their chain of command of their intent to start or continue their education. After completing this step, they must complete the Higher Education Preparation Course and TA Policy and Procedures Training. Once the training is complete, sailors then meet with a Navy College Education Counselor to receive education counseling and establish a plan for their goals. Sailors are then able to submit their application for tuition assistance after completing these steps. This must be done at least 14 days prior to the start of class. From Always Faithful to Always Learning, Marine Corps applicants begin the TA steps through a 15-minute, College 101 brief. After watching the presentation they must submit a statement of understanding, as well as the TA application. First-time applicants must also complete a financial management course prior to applying. Also, its recommended that the tuition assistance process begins 60 days before the term start date. All TA recipients automatically agree to remain on active duty for two years after graduation.
