Army Navy And Air Force Football Teams
Armed forces: That says it all. These are the people who protect our way of life. They come from different parts of the country to form three of the most respected and well-known schools in the United States:
- The United States Military Academy at West Point
- The United States Naval Academy
- The United States Air Force Academy
Former graduates have gone on to become some of the finest engineers, military leaders, teachers, and even United States presidents. All three of these schools play division 1 football, and they play it well. They may not have the biggest, strongest, or fastest players, but all three schools have adopted a style of play that benefits their particular type of players.
You Know About Army Navy And Air Force
Theyre the FBS academies, with Army still independent of a conference. Neither Army nor Navy are anything near what they were back in the 1940s, largely due to size requirements for players.
But Air Force had great success under former coach Fisher DeBerry with two top-10 finishes in the polls. Navy owned Army for years on the field, but the Black Knights have returned to prominence in the academy world under coach Jeff Monken. The academies have navigated changes in the landscape of college football while maintaining their identities.
Army and Navy have retained their status as revered combatants with their showcase regular-season finale. It is near impossible not to get wrapped up in the pageantry of the game, particularly when you realize how big of a deal it is to the players involved.
The rivalries with Air Force might not be as famous as Army-Navy, but those still rage.
We wanted to beat Air Force from a players perspective probably more so than Army, J.D. Gainey, a Navy lineman in the class of 1998, said. The reason why I say that is that Army-Navy thats a natural, expected rivalry. Everybody in the country recognizes it. Its really for the fans and its really for the alumni to get together.
Air Force Vs Navy And Air Force Vs Army
The Air Force vs Navy game and the Air Force vs Army game is considerably different from the Army vs Navy rivalry. Whereas there is some trash talk among the Army and Navy players and both teams want to win desperately, it is on a much higher level when they play Air Force.
To the Army and Navy Academies, the Air Force Academy is considered the little brother of the academies. Some have even called it the country club of the academies because their rules don’t seem to be quite as stringent as the Army and Navy Academies. Therefore, neither Army nor Navy wants to lose to the Air Force. However, since the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy came into play, the Air Force does hold a winning record against both Army and Navy.

At Army Football Game Sept 11 Anniversary Lends Tone Of Solemnity
The context of the moment with respect to 20 years ago and recent events in Afghanistan was not lost on players, alumni and recruits.

By Billy Witz
WEST POINT, N.Y. At 8:46 on Saturday morning, the unmistakable aroma of grilled sausages and just-cracked-open beer wafted through parking lot E above Michie Stadium, the quaint football field nestled on the banks of the Hudson River.
Tailgaters were, at that moment, relishing something like a return to normalcy, having been prevented last year from attending football games here because of the coronavirus pandemic. And yet, because this was Army football, it was hard to miss another context, one which lent a degree of solemnity to the day: the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and the weeks-old end to the war in Afghanistan that they spawned.
Teams across the country marked the occasion in some way: Notre Dame players did 20 push-ups, Ohio State and Brigham Young played with never forget helmet decals, and Rutgers had the number 37 affixed to the side of its helmets to represent the number of its graduates who died in the attacks. Air Force and Navy wore commemorative uniforms and scheduled their annual game in Annapolis, Md., for Saturday.
This week is opening our eyes for what we represent, said Marquel Broughton, a junior safety and captain from Lawrenceville, Ga., who intercepted a pass early and recovered two onside kicks late in Saturdays 38-35 win over Western Kentucky.

How To Play Football For The Army
The Army has a historic tradition when it comes to football. The United States Military Academy, or West Point as it is commonly known, fields a Division I football team that competes against universities from across the country. Those who are interested in playing football for the Army must get into the rigorous academic academy in order to play football. The school has produced three Heisman Trophy winners. Former Army general and U.S. president Dwight D. Eisenhower played football when he attended West Point. The annual Army-Navy football game is one of the most anticipated games of the college football season.
College Football World Reacts To Armys Epic Entrance
In an effort to honor the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks from 2001, Armys football program came out of the tunnel at Michie Stadium this Saturday with each player holding an American flag.
College football programs around the country are doing their best to show support to those affected by the 9/11 attacks, but its very evident that Armys tribute hit home the hardest this weekend.
Army head coach Jeff Monken recently opened up about his experience on Sept. 11 and the aftermath of that heartbreaking day. Although he was devastated over what happened, Monken said he was inspired by the way United States citizens came together as one to support each other.
I think thats one of the great things about the spirit of this country, Monken said, via the Times Herald-Record. When we feel attacked as a country, we come together and we really want to protect our freedom, our democracy and who we are as a nation.
After reading those comments from Monken, it shouldnt surprise us that his team put together a touching tribute to honor the lives lost on that tragic day in 2001.

Finally About That Space Force
**sigh** OK, lets talk about it. First of all, for it to have an academy, the Space Force has to actually be a real thing. It remains to be seen if a president can unilaterally create a new branch of the military.
The White House text of the order doesnt actually feature a directive to create the space force. Reporters didnt get any advance notice that Trump had made the decision, and the Pentagon is not answering questions about it. Lawmakers and staff on the Hill didnt know this was coming and creating a space force may require a vote.
The most likely scenario is that Space Force would fall under the umbrella of the Air Force, much like the Marines do with the Naval Academy.
Ltc Hal Moore And The 1/7th Cav At Lz X
The Battle of Ia Drang was the first major battle between the United States Army and the North Vietnamese Army as part of Pleiku Campaign conducted early in the Vietnam War. It comprised two main engagements, centered on two previously scouted helicopter landing zones , known as LZ X-Ray and LZ Albany.
The engagement at LZ X-Ray was the first large scale helicopter air assault and involved the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment and supporting units under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Harold Hal Moore from November 1416, 1965 at LZ X-Ray. Surrounded and under heavy fire from a numerically superior force, the American forces at LZ X-Ray were able to hold off and drive back the North Vietnamese forces over three days of battle, largely through the support of both air power and heavy artillery bombardment, which the North Vietnamese lacked. LZ X-ray was considered an American tactical victory, as the Americans were able to exact an almost 10:1 kill ratio.
The LZ X-Ray battle was depicted in the 2002 movie We Were Soldiers and is based the book We Were Soldiers Onceand Young, which was authored by Hal Moore and Joseph L. Galloway.

And What About Schools Like Texas A& m And The Citadel
A& M, University of North Georgia, The Citadel, Virginia Military Institute, Norwich University, and Virginia Tech are senior military colleges. Its like these schools have ROTC programs on steroids. They mirror a service academy experience at a regular school . Thats why youll see these guys and girls at Aggies home games.
The biggest different between these schools and the federal service academies is students who matriculate through the ROTC programs at those schools dont have to serve. The Citadel estimates about a third of its graduates receive military commission.
As for Merchant Marine Academy, its graduates must keep a merchant mariner license for six years and serve five years as a merchant marine officer or in a maritime profession. They can also become a commissioned officer in one of the five branches.

The Peak Of Military Service Football Was Obviously The 1940s
As the base system expanded and many regular colleges shut down sports, former sports stars would get together and play in the United States or abroad. They were glorified exhibitions, sometimes against gutted college teams. There were also military all-star teams that played in exhibitions against professional teams.
During wartime, there were some incredible college football team names, like the Iowa Pre-Flight Seahawks, Second Air Force Superbombers, Great Lakes Navy Bluejackets, El Toro Flying Marines, 11th Airborne Angels, Johnson Air Base Vanguards, and Marine Corps Sukiran Streaks.
The NCAA catalogues a bunch of their postseason games, with equally incredible names like the Marine, Missile, G.I., Rice, Parc Des Princes, and Electronics bowls.
College Football Schools That Belong In Different Conferences
Rick Bowmer/Associated Press
The Big 12 helped fill the void this offseason by reviving the college football realignment/expansion discussion, prompting the wheels to start turning about which schools the conference might seek to add and how that will affect other leagues. As of now, the Big 12 has made no definitive decision, but another round of movement seems inevitable.
We’ve got a slew of suggested conference switches that would make great sense for a variety of reasons. Most of them probably won’t ever happen, but a fan can dream.
And since we’re dealing in hypotheticals, our proposed moves include teams that are currently independent, as well as ones that should consider going that route. We won’t be making any recommendations involving the FCS ranks, however, since Idaho seems resigned to dropping down a level in 2018 and North Dakota State appears quite content winning FCS titles every season.

Aac Football: These 3 Teams Should Get Realignment Invite
The American Athletic Conference has the difficult task of trying to replace the biggest names from its conference UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston once they officially leave for the Big 12. The problem is, the best options may also be in contention to join Power Five schools in the next wave of college football realignment. AAC football cant afford to do nothing, so itll have to find the right partners who can grow into their conference without fear of a Power Five conference scooping them up.
The Action Network and CBS Sports report the AAC has extended invites for Air Force and Colorado State to join their conference, with an announcement coming as soon as the first week of October.
The problem is, those two schools alone will not move the needle for the premier Group of Five conference. This is a conference thats losing UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston teams that have been highly ranked and/or have been to big bowl games in recent years.
It would be interesting to see if recent Top 25 teams such as Coastal Carolina or Liberty would have any desire to join the AAC however, those schools may be courted by bigger conferences if conference realignment expands even further. ACC anyone?
Unless the AAC can add some additional name-brand schools, it looks like the Mountain West and Sun Belt Conference will have the strongest Group of Five football conferences, much to the chagrin of Memphis and SMU.
Lets take a look at the teams who fit those qualifications.
