If I Move And Am Married To An Active Duty Marine Do I Have To Get A New Drivers License
Maybe. The military spouse residency relief act has helped dependents bypass laws that only protected our servicemembers. This new law allows us to keep our record of home for tax and possibly drivers license purposes, no matter where we get stationed. Check it out and verify your status.
Make sure that you are aware and comply with any seat belts laws where you move.
Congratulations On Your Recent Engagement
Effective 2 February 2015, the Archbishop for the Military Services has established that the period of preparation prior to the celebration of marriage in the Archdiocese is six months. As the outline of the process below indicates, much work must be done in this time.
General Process for Celebrating Marriage in the AMS
Who Can Celebrate Marriage in the AMS?
The celebration of marriage is entrusted to the pastor of either Catholic party . Indeed, the permission of a Catholic partys proper pastor is required if the marriage will not take place in his parish . For subjects of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, the proper pastor is the AMS priest assigned to their military installation.
If you or your intended spouse is a subject of the AMS, then you can begin to prepare for your marriage by contacting the AMS priest assigned to the military installation where you serve.
If you and your intended spouse are not subjects of the AMS but would like to celebrate your marriage in a chapel on a military installation, then you must contact the pastor of your civilian parish to begin marriage preparation according to the process established in that civilian diocese.
At the initial meeting with the civilian priest, please inform him of your desire to celebrate the marriage on a military installation.

1. Schedule an appointment with your AMS priest
2. Pre-Marital Catechesis

Documents Needed For Proxy Marriage
One of the foremost ways to show evidence of a bona fide marriage is by presenting valid documents that a relationship existed before the marriage including:
- An affidavit
- Hotel or plane ticket receipts,
So, for example, if you were married by proxy virtually and then both met in the Bahamas for your honeymoon, it would be important to show pictures, receipts, etc., from your time together there.
What About A Same
In some cases, a same-day ceremony or last minute elopement might be your best bet. Spontaneity can be very romantic! If you or your fiancé/e are about to leave the country, and have a limited window to tie the knot, the first thing to do is find out if theres a marriage license waiting period in your state.
To find out, read State-by-state marriage waiting periods should be part of your wedding plan. Waiting periods range from 24-hours to 8 full days depending on the location. This is the length of time you will be required to wait between applying for the license and receiving or using the license during a ceremony.
So if you want to get married fast, first make sure youre in a state without a waiting period! Then, have a friend or family member officiate, or find a local professional officiant that enjoys elopements and last minute weddings.
Consider having a loved one get ordained online , apply for your marriage licence at your local courthouse, and have the ceremony later the same day in your home or at a favorite location, such as a local park, backyard, or cafe.
When youre having a last minute elopement, all the usual traditions and obligations of who to invite and what kind of venue to consider no longer apply, so have fun!

Still Want A Party Consider A Sequel Wedding Or Vow Renewal
If you have to put a big wedding on hold for now, just remember that you can always have a party later.
Sequel weddingsare second wedding ceremonies held after the first, smaller, legally binding ceremony. Theyre popular when circumstances keep friends and loved ones from attending the first ceremony, or in the case of military marriages, when a partner cant be there in person to say their vows and kiss their new spouse.
These ceremonies can look just like a conventional wedding if thats what you want, but the ceremony wording will be altered slightly to reflect that youre already married.
Similarly, a vow renewal, anniversary ceremony, or wedding after party might be the way to go!
All of these options are a lot of fun, and give you the chance to plan a big bash that you can both attend in person, with all your loved ones beside you, when the timings right.

Dear Military Spouse Says
Whew! Id be more than happy to answer your questions! I know you must feel overwhelmed! Again congrats on getting married.
How long before you will be able to get into military housing? The waiting list for housing is different everywhere. For some places there isnt a waiting list, others the waiting list may be a month long, and yet others, the waiting list can be 1 or 2 years long. Yes, you heard me right, I said years. The only way to know for sure is to call the housing office and ask. Your spot on the waiting list is determined by his rank and the number of dependents he has. This will also determine how many bedrooms he is given, so you will need to have this information handy when calling.
How quickly do you have to move into military housing once you get the house? If you put yourself on the waiting list and your number comes up he can either choose to accept the house or deny the house. If he accepts, he will need to sign for the house.
That doesnt necessarily mean you have to move into it right then, just be advised that even if you dont move into it right then, that his BAH will get taken out starting immediately. Also, you should plan to move into the house within at least a couple of weeks.
So lets assume he is already at his duty station. He comes home on leave, yall get married, he goes back and puts in for housing and gets housing right away or even 2 months later. If he wants any time off to move, he will need to take leave.
