Recon Marines hold a variety of skills.
They have expert scouting and patrolling skills, including swimming, small boat operations, close combat skills, demolitions, surface, and sub-surface insertion and extraction techniques, and assault climbing.

The Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery
While this test is usually accomplished at MEPS, it can also be done in high school. The ASVAB is used to determine what jobs you are academically eligible for. It is smart for you to take a month and do a few online practice ASVAB tests or get a book with practice tests and tips to score better. The reason you need to score well on the ASVAB as it may determine whether or not you get your number one choice of jobs after boot camp / basic training.
There are three ways to take the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery ASVAB to qualify for military service . It can be taken in high school, or a paper version at MEPS, or in a computerized version at MEPS. The third option is the way most recruits take the ASVAB.
The visit to MEPS is two-phased: Part of the process does not belong to any individual service. It’s a joint-service operation, that attempts to determine whether or not you are qualified for the military. This includes a medical examination and the testing portions of MEPS.

How Do You Choose A Military Occupational Specialty
While there are many MOS to choose from, recruits have limited options depending on their ASVAB score and the needs of your chosen branch. Of course, each occupation has different entry requirements for every specialty. As a recruit, you need to keep in mind that to qualify for the MOS you desire, you have to achieve a certain ASVAB score in your test.
Jobs In The Air Force
The Air Force calls its enlisted jobs Air Force specialty codes The Air Force has two enlistment options: Guaranteed Job, and Guaranteed Aptitude Area. Under the guaranteed job program, the applicant is guaranteed training in a specific Air Force job. Under the guaranteed aptitude program, the applicant is guaranteed that he will be selected for a job that falls into one of the designated aptitude areas. The Air Force has divided all of their jobs into four aptitude areas: general, electronic, mechanical, and administrative.
Because the Air Force has many more applicants than they have slots, it is very common for an applicant to process through MEPS, and return enlisted in the delayed enlistment program without a reserved job-slot or shipping date. Instead, while at MEPS, they provide a list of job and aptitude area preferences to the job counselor, then they are placed on the qualified waiting list, for one of their preferences to become available. This can take several months. It’s not uncommon, these days, for an Air Force applicant to remain in the DEP for 8 or more months before finally shipping out to basic training.

Submit Your Application 4medical Exam
You will then take a two part medical exam: First there is a questionnaire on your medical history including specific information on your medication. Then the medical staff will conduct a physical exam to measure your height, weight, evaluate your vision, colour perception and hearing. The second step is a medical file review to determine any limitations that will affect your training and career.

VRA : VRA allows any honorably discharged veteran to be hired noncompetitively into any position, GS-11 and below, so long as the hiring takes place within three years of separation from the military. If you see a job that is a GS-11 or below and you would like to apply, fill out the forms and write VRA across the top or include a statement about invoking VRA in the transmittal letter or email.
DD 214: If you are on active duty at the time you apply for a job, you wont be able to provide a DD 214 even if the announcement indicates that veterans must provide one with the application. Obtain a statement from your commander that you are on active duty and will provide the DD 214 on your first day at work. Be sure you have your DD 214 when you out-process no DD 214 on your first day likely means no job!
Double Dipping: You can be on terminal leave drawing military pay while working as a civil servant. There is no pay offset.
Disabled Veterans: Be sure you have a copy of your military service disability rating or your VA rating available ideally, a copy of both. These documents are as important as your DD 214. You will have to provide a rating decision to invoke a non-competitive hiring authority .
