The score is made available to lenders, landlords and others to assess if youre a financial risk. Its important to pay bills on time and in full to maintain a great credit score, as this can affect your ability to secure a loan or even rent an apartment. Using this feature isnt reported to the credit bureaus and wont affect your score.
Buying A Home With Quicken Loans Aka Rocket Mortgage
You might be wondering what the process is like with Quicken Loans? Ill share my timeline for buying a home with Quicken Loans.
- May 26 Anticipated Closing Date
Working with Quicken Loans has been a breeze, and I am so thankful that we gave them a chance! Since we were quoted the 4.5% interest rate from Navy Federal Credit Union, we havent heard a single word from our loan officer. She has no idea that we are working with another company. She just stopped communicating altogether.
So if youre looking at buying a home, but youre feeling discouraged by all of the different options, check with multiple lenders and dont give up hope. Its still a great time to buy a home! Rates are still low depending on who you choose, and I highly recommend Rocket Mortgage with Quicken Loans.
Side Note: This article is not sponsored in any way, shape, or form, although I would LOVE to work with Quicken on future projects.
Myth: Keeping A Small Balance On Your Credit Cards Is Helpful To Your Score
Not only is this false, but keeping a balance on your credit cards can also hurt you financially due to the interest rates charged by creditors. In reality, your best bet is to pay your balance in full each month when possible, or at the very least more than the minimum due. And, if youre carrying a balance, always pay your credit card bill on time.

Great App With Even Better Service
I use both Bank of America and NFCU, and NFCUs mobile app and overall customer support combined with integration with the app is completely seamless and eons ahead of BoA. The NFCU app has an extremely user friendly interface, and I love that it has direct links to customer service chat and call. Overall its security and banking-tech integration is fantastic. There was an example of a time I forgot my PIN to my card and after speaking with a representative she informed me that I was actually able to reset my PIN directly through the app. In comparison for BoA I can only reset my PIN by going in person to the bank during their working hours, which obviously poises a challenge for customers with 9-5 workdays. I am so impressed with the apps highly secure, detailed and user friendly interface. Even today when I went to make multiple payments to my credit card, it prompted me with a screen checking if I knew I was making multiple payments. I really appreciate developers high attention to detail and clear care to make NFCU customers experience using the app as positive, secure, accurate and responsive as possible. Thanks NFCU! Amazing service as always.

What To Keep In Mind About Navy Federal Student Loans
If you borrow student loans from Navy Federal Credit Union, you might think youre keeping your finances under one roof. Keep in mind, though, that NFCU student loans are serviced by LendKey.
Here are a few other quirks of Navy Federal student loans that you might not know.
No option to check rates without formally applying
The very best private student loan companies allow you to confirm your eligibility and receive a rate quote without submitting to a hard check on your credit report. Navy Federal is among lenders that dont offer this feature.
Given that youd have to complete NFCUs full, 15-minute application and be vulnerable to a potential dip in credit score, it might be smart to shop around with other lenders first. Check eligibility and APRs with competing lenders and then, if you like Navy Federal as a potential lender, complete its application so that you can make an apples-to-apples comparison on rates and terms.
Application requirements exclude nontraditional students
Not all student loan companies cater to all types of borrowers. Besides the fact that Navy Federal loans are limited to members of the military community, you must also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is attending an eligible degree-granting program at least half-time.

Navy Federal Personal Loan Reviews & Transparency
Category Rating: 2.8/5
- Better Business Bureau: Navy Federal Credit Union receives an A+ rating from the BBB but is not accredited with them.
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: The CFPB has around 140 complaints about Navy Federal personal loans on file. Some complaints include a borrower being unable to find out how much they were charged in late fees and another claiming Navy Federal made automatic payments without authorization.
- WalletHub: Navy Federal Credit Union has an average user score of 4.1/5 stars across 2,400+ reviews.
- Transparency: Navy Federal Credit Union is clear about the range of terms borrowers can expect. However, they are not transparent about their credit score requirement, and they dont have pre-qualification, which many lenders offer.
Navy Federal loses some points for having a relatively high amount of complaints compared to many other lenders and for not being clear about some of their requirements.

What Credit Score Is Needed To Join The Military
In general, the military isnt looking for a specific credit score when determining financial eligibility, but excessive debt or delinquent payments could be a red flag for further discussions with your recruiter.
Enlistees who have dependents may need to file for a dependent waiver, and show they have the resources to provide for children or others who rely on them for financial support.
The military doesnt want you to come to them as a last resort, where youre just looking for a job to pay off your debt, says Galen Bargerstock, founder of Government and Civilian Employees Services. They want service members who are focused on the objective, which is ultimately to protect the country. They dont want your mind focused somewhere else, worried about personal obligations when youre supposed to be protecting the country.
Are Navy Federal Student Loans Right For You
Like other lenders and products, Navy Federal Credit Union student loans have pros and cons.
You could be attracted by NFCUs specialty in serving members of the military community. You might also appreciate that you can borrow in small amounts and in small time frames .
Less attractive traits of Navy Federal student loans do exist, however. Even though it offers three in-school repayment options and the standard six-month grace period, you might be wary of its lack of repayment safeguards, particularly because other lenders are much better about spelling out a safety net for distressed customers.

Age Of Credit History
The second most common concern for lenders in the FICO study was multiple recent applications for credit. For instance, if youre trying to go from one credit card to several within a short period of time, it might raise a red flag that you cant afford your monthly obligations. The length your accounts have been open is also important when asking for loans. This goes back to payment historylenders want to see evidence that youre capable of paying off multiple credit cards and other loans on time for years.
Myth: Checking Your Credit Hurts Your Score

Quicken Loans Rocket Mortgage For The Win
I looked at local lenders, but I remembered one of the easiest transactions Id ever had as a Realtor® was when one of my buyers used Quicken Loans to buy a home.
It was a seamless transaction with excellent communication, and even though Realtors® always suggest using a local lender, Quicken was at the top of my list of lenders to check out.
I started a chat with Quicken and was called by a banker, Daniel, who was confident that he could help us. I explained our situation, and he said that using the bonus income would be no problem at all as long as we could document it.
