How Long Does It Take To Become An Army Ranger From Start To Finish
As a candidate, you will first go to nine weeks of Basic Combat Training.
If you have the Option 40 contract, you will find your Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training are combined in a 15-week course.
After the first 15 weeks, you attend the three-week Basic Airborne Course for some formal training.
From this point, you must make it through the eight weeks of RASP.
At this point, you are a Ranger.
The actual time it takes depends on a lot of factors.
If you were to go through every part of the process without having to wait between courses, you could get through it rather quickly.
However, due to scheduled start times, that is not likely to happen.
Also, many candidates are recycled.
Being recycled means, for whatever reason, you were not successful for a portion of the training.
In this event, you must start over in that phase.
Therefore, it takes longer to complete subsequent training.
However, if you wish to hold a leadership position, you must attend Ranger School.
Joining The Military: What You Should Know Before Committing
Joining the military is a big commitment, not to be taken lightly. Most first-term enlistments require a commitment to four years of active duty and two years of inactive . An Army Recruiter Talks About Joining The Armed Forces
Q: Whats the first conversation when a young person walks through your door?
Black: I ask, How can we help you? And, I listen to what they say. Everyone has different reasons for wanting to join the Army. Then, I explain what the Army has to offer: the different jobs that we have and the difference between active duty and the reserve. And, we go from there.
Q: What kinds of career opportunities are there?
Black: There are many career opportunities in the Army. Each base is a city of its own, run by the soldiers. So, any job that interests you, ranging from maintenance to medical, you can pursue in the Army. As far as fitting a person to a particular job, thats based on availability and the applicants results on the Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery . An applicant will be presented with the available jobs that he or she qualifies for.
Q: Is it the same for both active duty and the reserve? Whats the difference?
Black: It works the same for both. Active duty is someone who is in the Army 24/7. Its his or her job, being in the Army. Both active duty and reserve soldiers go to basic training. Basic training is nine weeks, but I tell people ten weeks because you first go to a reception station at the training post for 3-5 days.
Q: What then?
Q: How long is that training period?
Black: It depends on the job you select: maybe four weeks, six weeks or even 52 weeks.
Q: What job would take a year?
Black: A job like linguist may take a year.
Q: So what is ROTC?

Getting Fit With Fitt
As a rule of thumb, ease into your activities, gradually increase each element of FITT, and end each session with a cool-down. For example:
- Begin with a 5- to 10-minute warm-up. Walking, biking or a slow jog will increase blood flow to the muscles and lightly increase your heart rate. Follow up with some light stretching of the muscles you will be using in your workout.
- Improving your overall fitness is most effectively done through a combination of 20 to 60 minutes of aerobic and strength exercises. The two sample fitness sessions below are based on Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology guidelines.
- A 5- to 10-minute cool-down helps return your body to its normal, pre-exercise condition. Suddenly stopping an intense workout can make you dizzy, nauseated or even faint. Walking, biking or a slow jog will gradually bring down your heart rate and relieve muscle soreness.

Job Training College Benefits
The recruiter will probably emphasize the high-tech, state-of-the-art, sophisticated equipment that you will get to work with. True, some soldiers are trained for the highly skilled jobs. Generally, however, those jobs go to the soldier who was already trained, educated, and technically skilled before joining the military. Many of the high-skill jobs will go to soldiers who already have at least two years of college. And often the high-tech work is done by civilian contractors who have the necessary training and skills.
In reality, few military assignments could be described as high-tech, although many of the jobs sound high-tech. For instance, one U.S. Army brochure includes assignments with titles such as, combat engineering, general engineering, supply and service, and food service. These assignments, and others offered by the military, would likely offer little more than low skill, manual labor. The armed forces simply do not have the time, the need, or the resources to train many recruits for highly skilled work.
Army Or Civilian Career
Whether you choose to remain in the Army after your five-year commitment is a decision you do not need to make now.
West Point graduates are highly sought after. Those choosing a civilian career have attained great success in different professionsas doctors, CEOs of major companies, and engineers the possibilities are endless.
Graduates who pursue an Army career do so because they feel the commitment and satisfaction of serving their country. The Army family takes care of its own during active duty and upon retirement after 20 years of service, you receive a generous guaranteed pension and reduced medical care for life, plus many other benefits.

Where Does Basic Training Take Place
For all full-time regular force candidates, basic training takes place at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.
All part-time candidates joining their local Primary Reserve unit will undergo similar basic training objectives. Reserve units will conduct their Basic Training either at the local reserve unit location or at a Canadian Armed Forces training centre. Locations vary depending on units. Talk to a Primary Reserve unit recruiter for more information on their Basic Training program.
Boot Camp Basics: Getting Recycled
When you attend Basic Training, you will have multiple phases of trainingthe initial in-processing upon arrival gives way to lectures, study, hands-on work, discussion, etc. Each phase of the training is arrived at as a group rather than as an individual trainee or test-taker.
But if one or more people fail to progress, they may be sent back to an earlier part of the training cycle to learn and pass the required testing or evaluations to move forward.
Being recycled usually means being placed in the group behind yours or to a group in the appropriate phase of training. And as the name implies, this can add days or weeks to an individual recruits basic training experience. Ask a recruiter about the recycling process and how you can avoid it to minimize the duration of your training time in boot camp. Getting recycled is the biggest variable when discussing how long it takes to graduate.
