If you are Navy , you may now be eligible for funding for credentials that were earned, and maintained, prior to entering the Navy. Training Information & Types Of Aircraft Mechanic Degrees
As previously explained, there are two main pathways to becoming an aircraft mechanic.
You must, no matter what, become certified by the FAA and take written, practical, and oral exams to prove your knowledge of the required material. You must then either have a certain amount of time in OTJ experience or graduate from an accredited program.
Neither of these pathways is necessarily better than the other, although the degree pathway provides a potential aircraft mechanic with better potential career prospects.
In addition, one may go through the military and learn the required material during their service. The service member must become certified to perform aircraft maintenance on military vehicles, and so will be educated by the military in much the same way they would be if they attended an FAA-certified school or program.

OccFld 60 is the aircraft maintenance division of the Marine Corps.
It has to do with Military Occupational Specialties that provide direct or indirect support to the total air frames and power plant packages of aircraft weapons systems.
Training for an MOS in USMC 60 Field will begin after the soldier completes basic training, which lasts 13 weeks in the Marine Corps.

The Am And Ame Ratings
First known as the Aviation Metalsmith rating when it was established in 1921, it later evolved into the current Aviation Structural Mechanic rating in 1948. The rating branched into three main components, AMS, AMH, and AME. On March 1, 2001, according to NAVADMIN 153/00, the AMS and AMH versions of the rating merged into the single, current AM rating. AME remains unchanged.
The Navy’s computerized personnel system associates the rating name with an alphanumeric Navy Occupational Specialty code. For AM, the NOS is A130 for AME, A131.
