To redeem certain discounts, you’ll just need to show your military ID. However, be sure to check before you shop, as some places that offer a military discount require that you prove your military affiliation through a third-party program. Most often you’ll see stores using ID.me or SheerID in these cases.

Be aware that discounts can be contingent on membership in Veterans Advantage, USAA, Veterans of Foreign Wars, or other organizations. And these memberships can come with fees. If you’ll be using the discounts often enough, though, the memberships might be worth the cost.

Check out our comprehensive lists of the top military discounts, as well as specific eligibility criteria. We also look at which categories feature the most discounts, and where you can find the highest numbers of active-duty military personnel.

How Much Does A Ymca Membership Cost

The YMCA started in the 1800s as the Young Mens Christian Association. Although the YMCA has changed a lot over time, it still has the basic focus of bettering people in the area. The goal of the Y is to nurture the potential of kids, to help people lead a healthier life, and to support neighbors while strengthening the surrounding communities. Through these values, YMCA has become a popular destination for people who want to lead a more fulfilling life. In order to fulfill all of the goals set by the YMCA, however, funds are needed to run each program. For this reason, there are membership dues that are necessary in order to be part of the programs offered by the Y.

Dod Military Outreach Initiative

Due to COVID-19, YMCA and private fitness access will be situational, based on individual facility determination and as regulated by local and state authorities. Service members are responsible for coordinating and complying with their military unit/command recommendations and restrictions on facility use. Minimum attendance reporting is waived beginning March 1, 2020, until further notice. Members that will not use the facility for 30 days or more should notify the facility as soon as known and request their membership be put on HOLD status. If approved by the facility manager, the membership term may be extended by the same period of time it was on hold at no additional cost to the government.

The Armed Services YMCA is proud to work with the Department of Defense to offer the Military Outreach Initiative. The Military Outreach Initiative offers gym memberships and respite child care services for qualified military members and families nationwide. Through this initiative, military members and families receive access to vital resources that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

  • The initiative has provided more than 88,500 YMCA memberships and nearly 44,200 private fitness memberships to military families
  • More than 164,000 military children have benefited from this initiative
  • More than 1,760 YMCAs and nearly 2,700 private fitness facilities support this initiative

How Can You Get Discounted Rates At The Ymca

YMCA joining fees and annual rates vary, but many locations offer discounted rates for students, seniors, military personnel, and low-income families. Sliding-scale memberships are also available based on total household income.

The discounted rates have stated requirements, such as students must attend school full-time and seniors must be 65 and older. In addition to discounts for traditional families, other low rates are offered to young adults and households with more than two adults. Rates and discounts are not uniform across the YMCA organization, so some branches may offer discounts unique to the location.

For a needs-based discounted rate, applicants may be required to fill out and submit a financial assistance application along with a recent tax return or other financial documents. Furthermore, they may be required to resubmit documentation on a recurring basis.

Many YMCA locations offer discounted annual membership fees to active duty members of the Armed Forces. Military members are usually required to provide identification at the time of enrollment. In addition, some YMCA locations offer free enrollments to active duty military personnel due to partnerships with YMCA of the Armed Forces. In this case, military members may be required to provide documentation, identification and commanding officer approval.

What Are The Extra Costs

As stated above, be prepared to spend upwards of $150 on a one-time initiation fee to get you started with a membership.

Most YMCA facilities offer a childcare option for an additional fee. From our research, this seems to be an additional $15 to $25 per month.

Additional programs, such as classes for adults, can be extra, depending on the location. Classes, depending on which one/s you want to take, can cost another $20 to $100 extra.

The YMCA also offers many programs for kids such as days camps and different sports programs. If your child takes part in a camp or sports program, there will be an additional fee. This fee covers things such as uniforms, referees, workers, coaches, and equipment. From our research, a summer camp can cost $600 to $900+ for a two-week program, but again, this will greatly depend upon the location.

Some YMCA locations, if they offer a swimming pool, can offer swimming lessons. If available, swimming lessons as the YMCA can cost about $10 to $15 per class, but some locations may want you to purchase these classes in blocks.

Personal trainers, depending on how many sessions you purchase, can cost about $50 to $60 per session, or in bulk, about $350 per eight sessions.

United Healthcare’s Renew Active

What Military Discount Do They Offer

OMK got in touch with a representative from Anytime Fitness regarding their military discount policy.

Heres what he had to say:

Anytime Fitness is a franchise and each gym is independently owned and operated by a franchisee. Thus, policies vary slightly from gym to gym.

That said, the vast majority of Anytime Fitness gyms offer discounted Hero memberships for military veterans and their families. We recommend checking with your nearest Anytime Fitness gym to determine its policies.

After doing a little more research, I noticed that just like with the Golds Gym military discount, its also offered to Firemen, Police Officers, and other first responders.

In fact, in from less than a year ago, even registered nurses qualify for the discount!

I searched their website for the official policy on all of this, and their FAQ page confirms that a discount is probable but to check your specific location.

Just like with the other discounts, be sure to have proof of military service readily available when you go to sign up!

OrangeTheory is not your traditional type of gym. Instead of rows and rows of workout equipment, stair-climbers, stationary bikes, and free weights, youll see 3 different workout areas.

  • A row of treadmills
  • A row of stationary rowing machines
  • A small area to do body weight exercises

Its sort of a cross between a CrossFit style gym and a Boot Camp style gym.

Myself, on the other hand, prefer the traditional membership-type gym for my workouts.
