Title An Imported Vehicle

How owning a car in the Army is different for Soldiers

The following individuals are allowed to import a vehicle duty-free from outside the United States:

  • Military personnel returning at the end of an assignment in a territory outside the United States customs area
  • U.S. government employees returning at the end of an assignment in a territory outside the United States customs area

Duty-free means that items brought through customs are not subject to a tax that is usually assigned to items imported between countries. Even though a military or U.S. government employee may be eligible to import a vehicle duty-free, this does not imply that the vehicle is not subject to Indiana sales tax. If the person importing the vehicle duty-free did not pay 7% sales tax on the vehicle when they purchased it and did not title the vehicle in their name prior to entry to the United States, normal sales tax rules apply.

The following completed documents are necessary for titling imported vehicles for personal use:

  • Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – NHSTA HS-7 Declaration Form . This form must be filed when motor vehicles or items of motor vehicle equipment are entered. The HS-7 can be obtained from custom brokers or ports of entry.
  • Environmental Protection Agency – EPA 3520-1 Emissions Form
  • Documents of ownership
  • Physical Inspection of a Vehicle or Watercraft – State Form 39530. A law enforcement official of any state may fill out this form.
  • Purple Heart Disabled Veteran Reduced Fees

Veterans awarded with a Purple Heart that have a service-related disability may qualify for reduced vehicle registration fees.

To apply for reduced fees as a Purple Heart recipient, disabled veteran, you will need to:

    STEP 1

Provide a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs stating that you are rated 50% or more disabled

    STEP 2

Provide U.S. Department of Defense form DD-214 verifying you are a recipient of a Purple Heart to your local County Treasurers Office

Members Of Visiting Forces Who May Not Drive

Members of visiting forces who may not drive include any driver who is disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence in this country. This includes military personnel, dependants, associated civilian workers, whether they are from EC or non-EC member states and British residents.

Soldiers Without Vehicles Or A Drivers License Why Do You Do It

I can understand the vehicle situation OCONUS, but CONUS? Doesn’t it get old bumming rides off of other soldiers? Do you save money doing it?

    “Can’t get a DUI if I can’t drive, sar’nt!”

    Challenge accepted

That’s- that’s actually not the worst idea.

^ This, but seriously its free PT and you save a shit ton of money.

To prey upon the good natured, because the Army encourages that behavior. /s

To make their squad leaders hate them

    Squad leaders HATE him!

Find out how he got $0 auto insurance using one weird trick

I have both but still choose to bike most places, I live on post and there isn’t much Meade requires me to do that I can’t bike to in a reasonable time. Saves on gas.

I’ve learned that owning a bike instead of a car let’s me sham going to/from appointments since it takes a little longer.

Although now I’m basically a cycling professional and get there just as fast as a car.

I genuinely grew up having a fear of driving but I feel it’s been overcome since cycling hasn’t killed me yet.

Now it’s a matter of not being lazy and getting my licence.

The money not spent on a car is recklessly spent else where. I’m a junior enlisted soldier do you expect any different lol.

I only bum rides if it’s necessary/safety concern. There were some pretty bad lightning storm I shouldn’t have cycled through.

“If this lightning bolt doesn’t kill me the Army will*.”

How Soon Will I Leave For Basic Training

How to renew your driver license online

Joining the military and leaving for basic training are two different things. When you join the military, you are qualifying first by testing and second by taking a physical. After qualifying in both areas, you will pick your job and swear-in. You’re not leaving for basic training at this time. It is important that your recruiter and the Military Entrance Processing Station liaisons know when you are available to leave for basic training. It is always better to get your career started as soon as possible, but not everyone can do this. For instance, college students probably won’t be available until after the semester, and high school seniors must know their graduation date to find out when they can leave. Whatever the reason, discuss it with your recruiter.

New Rules Help Get Commercial Driver’s License

Service members who are licensed to drive a range of military vehicles now have an advantage gaining a commercial driver’s license, a senior defense official said.

Frank C. DiGiovanni, who directs the Defense Department’s office of training readiness and strategy, recently told The Pentagon Channel and American Forces Press Service the licensing development is “the second piece of something that was passed last year.”

In 2011, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration enacted the commercial learner’s permit rule. It allows states to substitute two years of safe driving experience in qualifying military vehicles for the skills-test portion of the commercial driver’s license test.

DiGiovanni said the Military Commercial Driver’s License Act of 2012, which took effect in October, adds another boost for service members with military licenses who seek civilian credentials. The new legislation permits states to issue commercial driver’s licenses to members of the Armed Forces who are stationed in a state, but not a resident of that state.

Because they move frequently, service members often maintain one state of residency. Service members who leave the military while living in a state other than their state of residency would previously have had to wait 30 days to a year to earn residency, DiGiovanni said.

DiGiovanni noted commercial license requirements vary by state, so service members should learn the specific rules for their state of residence.

    What Is A Combat Medic

A combat medic is a soldier who primarily treats the injuries of soldiers in their unit or station. Depending on the combat medic’s specialization, they may stabilize wounded soldiers in the field or provide long-term care in a facility alongside other medics. A combat medic who is deployed with their unit may also carry equipment to support their current mission.

A combat medic can pursue further education to specialize in different areas, such as dentistry or orthopedics. They also instruct other soldiers in emergency training courses.
