GED to army progress!!!

Today, there are three nationwide accepted high school equivalency exams, the GED® , TASC , and HiSET® .

When we say GED in this post, we refer to the credential thats awarded upon the successful completion of either of these options.

Signing up for a branch of the military services is very competitive and you must meet specific expectations.

The Army and the Navy both are welcoming persons who hold a high school equivalency diploma, and the Marine Corps is accepting applicants with a high school equivalency credential but they evaluate each individual case.

Talk with your local recruiter from the Army, Navy, or Marine Corps to learn how to file an application by the time youve earned your high school equivalency diploma.

For the U.S. Marine Corps , the GED diploma is recognized and accepted as a basic enlisting qualification.

We recommend the Online GED ProgramSimple, Fast Easy. . Get Started.

Be aware, though, that you can join the U.S. Marines without holding a high school diploma, but you are required to meet strict additional requirements before your application will be accepted.

The U.S. Marine Corps allows no more than five percent of all recruits to be enlisted without holding a common high school degree and just like other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, all Marine Corps recruits fall into one of three categories .

If You Need A High School Diploma Or Ged To Enlist Then How Can You Enlist At 17

You don’t ship until after graduation. Or you do STO .

And looking at your post history, if you’ve been diagnosed with ASD you can’t join. Also don’t drop out and get a GED just to join the Army. That’s really stupid.

Parent consent, currently enrolled in school and on track to graduate your recruiter gets a letter from school with you expected graduation date. This allows you to enlist then once you graduate you have to give recruiter copy of diploma. This is only for in HS, if you dropped out and don’t have a GED you can’t join until you get one.

My dad had finished high school and almost graduated boot camp by the time he turned 18. Birthday late in the year.

How Long Does It Take To Get Your Ged

You might be able to earn your GED in less than three months. How long it takes to get your GED depends on what skills you already have. It also depends on the number of hours you study each week.

Take practice tests to find out what you know and what you dont. Then, study only what you need to learn.

Each of the four content areas is tested and scored separately. If you do not pass one test, you only need to retake that test, not all four. Some states allow you to retake a test as many as eight times in one year.

National statistics for July 2014 through June 2015 showed that:

  • 77 percent of all GED tests taken received passing scores.
  • The pass rate for the GED test in New Mexico was 74 percent.
  • The Colorado GED test pass rate was 88 percent.

What Does The Ged Involve

The GED refers to the General Education Development Test. Earning a GED provides an alternative to earning the traditional high school diploma. The GED exam includes four separate tests that you may schedule on the same day or on different days. Each test typically requires at least an hour, and each test focuses on one of the main testing subject areas, which are:

  • Science
  • Reasoning through language arts
  • Mathematical reasoning

GED tests include multiple choice, long-form and essay questions. People pursuing a GED often hire tutors, enroll in preparatory courses and/or complete practice exams for the tests. To earn your GED, you must earn at least a score of 145 out of 200 on all four of your individual tests. Scores within the 165 to 174 range or 175 to 200 range show a preparedness for college courses or may entitle you to college credit hours.

GED requirements vary by state. Most states require you to be at least 18 years old to take the exam. However, some states make exceptions, such as offering the exam to 16- and 17-year-olds who have permission from their parent or legal guardian.

Ged Requirements Per Military Branch

Joining the US Army is possible even if you dont have a high school or college diploma.

However, you will be required to meet certain qualifications to be considered eligible.

Recruits to the army are usually classified in three tiers:

Tier 1: Applicants who hold high school or college diplomas are generally categorized as tier one recruits.

Tier 2: GED holders without diplomas and high school dropouts are classified as tier 2.

Tier 3: No GED or High school diploma. This tier more or less doesnt exist anymore.

If you are a GED holder with no college or high school diploma, you can raise your rank to tier one by completing 15 college credits.

Army recruits with GED certificates must also perform in the mandatory Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test in order to enlist.

This test is meant to evaluate whether a recruit has sufficient cognitive ability to serve in the army.

It also enables the army to determine what occupations a recruit might be most suited to given their abilities.

Whereas army recruits with high school or college diplomas only need a score of 31 and above to qualify, GED army recruits are required to score 50 percent and above in order to enlist.

In addition to meeting these requirements, all GED applicants must meet all the age, citizenship, height and weight, tattoo policy, and legal requirements in order to be eligible to join the army.

In fact, the Air Force only recruits less than one percent of applicants.

Getting Into The Army With A Ged

Joing The Army With a GED & High school Dip in 2020, 2021

If you hold a GED and want to join the Army, you certainly can apply and see if you get in. As with all other potential recruits, you’ll need to be between the ages of 17 and 34, have no more than two dependents, and pass the Armed Services Qualification Test with a minimum score of 31.

You’ll also need to have a clean record and to meet Army physical requirements. Many potential recruits are passed by because of obesity or other disqualifying medical conditions.

However, even if you meet all the other requirements, in all likelihood you won’t be accepted with just a GED. That’s because the Army has plenty of people from which to choose these days, and can choose those with the highest qualifications.

Therefore, your best bet if you have a GED instead of a high school diploma is to earn some college credits. If you earn 15 college credits , your chances of being accepted improve dramatically. Your chances continue to rise with increasing numbers of college credits.

Requirements For Ged Holders

There are additional requirements for GED holders that high school graduates do not need. All of the services strictly limit the number of high school dropouts who can enlist each year. It is because years of military enlistment statistics have shown that this category of enlistees fails to complete the entire first term of military service at about twice the rate of those with a high school diploma or those with college credits.

If you have a high school diploma or higher, you are categorized in Tier 1 classification, and if you have a GED without college credits, you are classified as Tier 2. However, if a student with a GED completes 15 college credits, that student is reclassified as Tier 1. The Tier 1 student has to perform in the 30th percentile and above on the ASVAB to be eligible for service. The Tier 2 student has to perform above the 50th percentile to be eligible for service.

The Air Force is the most strict on this matter. The Air Force allows less than one percent of annual enlistments to be recruits without a high school diploma. The Marines have the next highest standards. No more than five percent of Marine recruits can be GED-holders. The Army allows no more than ten percent each year, and the Navy limits GED enlistments to no more than five to ten percent each year.

What Gpa Do You Need For The Military

4.6/5GPAYou

Keeping this in view, does your GPA matter in the military?

High school grades may matter in the military, not necessarily right away or in the way you might think. If you’re reasonably intelligent, able to follow simple instructions, and score well enough on the ASVAB to qualify for whatever vocational training you want to do, you’ll be recruited.

Likewise, is there a GPA requirement for OCS? My understanding is that the Army does not have a minimum GPA requirement for OCS — so long as the person applying has earned a degree from an accredited college/university and has no other issues, they are qualified to be considered.

Then, what are the requirements to join the military?

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or a resident alien.
  • Be between the ages of 17-34.
  • Have a high school diploma.
  • Have no more than two dependents.
  • Take and pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test.
  • Pass a Military Entrance Processing Station medical exam.

Can you join the Army with bad grades?

Everyone is correct, your grades don’t matter as long as you‘re going enlisted. You will need to have a genuine HS diploma . Then you must take the ASVAB test and if you score well they will not care about your grades at all. The point is your grades are irrelevant.

It is nearly impossible to get into the Air Force without a high school diploma. The chances are incredibly slim for people who only get a GED. Historically, only 0.5% of all annual Air Force enlistments have only a GED. If a GED holder is trying to enlist, that person must score a 50 or higher on the AFQT. On the upside, college credits may result in a higher enlistment rank!
