How To Join The Marines Without A Diploma
The United States Marine Corps, or USMC, is one of the branches of the U.S. armed forces. Different branches of the military have different enlistment requirements, but it is possible to enlist in the Marines without a high school diploma. Ninety percent of enlisted Marines are required to hold diplomas, however the Marines have a policy of accepting no more than 5 percent of recruits without one. Enlistees are placed in a three-tier system. Tier 1 recruits hold a diploma, tier 2 recruits have earned a GED and tier 3 recruits have neither.
Meet the age and physical requirements of enlistment. You must be between age 17 and 35 to enlist in the Marines. If you are 17, you will need your parents permission. Physical requirements vary depending on your gender, but generally you must be between 5 feet and 6 feet, 8 inches tall, weigh less than 255 lbs., be able to pass a physical examination and have acceptable vision, either with or without glasses.
Prove your citizenship. You must show that you are a U.S. citizen or a legal immigrant authorized to be a U.S. resident through the term of your enlistment.
Pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB, test. This is a timed test in four parts: Arithmetic Reasoning, Math Knowledge, Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension. You need a minimum score of 31 on the ASVAB to enlist in the Marines. The less education you have, the more important your score becomes.

What Is The Difference In Each Tier
The United States Military uses three tiers to categorize recruits based on education. They are
Tier I. Tier I recruits have at least a high school diploma or a minimum of 15 college credits. Tier I schools include traditional high schools, accredited private schools, and depending on the state you live in, some distance education high schools.
Tier II. Tier II recruits include those whove earned their GED, a correspondence diploma, or other level of education below a completed high school diploma. The Army typically accepts about 10% of Tier II recruits each year, while the Marines, for example, only accept 5% of Tier II enlistments.
Tier III. Tier III is a category that doesnt technically exist these days, but would include recruits who dont have a high school diploma, GED, or relevant education. The military almost never accepts Tier III enlistments.

For the U.S. Marine Corps , the GED diploma is recognized and accepted as a basic enlisting qualification.
Be aware, though, that you can join the U.S. Marines without holding a high school diploma, but you are required to meet strict additional requirements before your application will be accepted.
The U.S. Marine Corps allows no more than five percent of all recruits to be enlisted without holding a common high school degree and just like other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, all Marine Corps recruits fall into one of three categories .

If you want to be enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident and be in the age range 17-28. If you are holding a GED instead of a high school diploma, you are required to pass the ASVAB test with a score of at least 50. It is a proctored exam that includes ten short tests for you to complete in three hours or less. Each test includes multiple-choice questions related to:
Surveillance and communications
It’s important to remember some branches require higher scores in general, and most branches have higher score requirements for people with GEDs than they do for those with high school diplomas. In addition to a higher ASVAB composite score, some branches also require higher line scores. Most branches consider the AFQT score the most important line score, especially for recruits with a GED. As some people struggle to take tests, some branches may allow recruits with low scores to get a waiver to take the place of their ASVAB score, which is something you ask your recruiter about.

What About My Hair And Beard
Grooming standards in the Navy exist to promote neatness, cleanliness and safety.
Men are expected to keep their hair short and neat.
A religious accommodation request can be submitted for personnel to wear a beard.
There is no requirement for women to cut their hair short. Short hair is permitted to be worn down if it falls above the collarbone. Long hair is expected to be pulled back in a bun, ponytail, braids or corn rows.
Requirements For Ged Holders
There are additional requirements for GED holders that high school graduates do not need. All of the services strictly limit the number of high school dropouts who can enlist each year. It is because years of military enlistment statistics have shown that this category of enlistees fails to complete the entire first term of military service at about twice the rate of those with a high school diploma or those with college credits.
If you have a high school diploma or higher, you are categorized in Tier 1 classification, and if you have a GED without college credits, you are classified as Tier 2. However, if a student with a GED completes 15 college credits, that student is reclassified as Tier 1. The Tier 1 student has to perform in the 30th percentile and above on the ASVAB to be eligible for service. The Tier 2 student has to perform above the 50th percentile to be eligible for service.
The Air Force is the most strict on this matter. The Air Force allows less than one percent of annual enlistments to be recruits without a high school diploma. The Marines have the next highest standards. No more than five percent of Marine recruits can be GED-holders. The Army allows no more than ten percent each year, and the Navy limits GED enlistments to no more than five to ten percent each year.
