Getting Fit With Fitt
As a rule of thumb, ease into your activities, gradually increase each element of FITT, and end each session with a cool-down. For example:
- Begin with a 5- to 10-minute warm-up. Walking, biking or a slow jog will increase blood flow to the muscles and lightly increase your heart rate. Follow up with some light stretching of the muscles you will be using in your workout.
- Improving your overall fitness is most effectively done through a combination of 20 to 60 minutes of aerobic and strength exercises. The two sample fitness sessions below are based on Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology guidelines.
- A 5- to 10-minute cool-down helps return your body to its normal, pre-exercise condition. Suddenly stopping an intense workout can make you dizzy, nauseated or even faint. Walking, biking or a slow jog will gradually bring down your heart rate and relieve muscle soreness.

Do You Get Citizenship If You Join The Army
The quick answer is you can, but it’s now quicker to use the standard naturalization route.
After September 11, 2001, President Bush signed the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest program into order. This is a program that helps recruit security-cleared foreign born individuals into the U.S. Military who have foreign language skills and medical expertise by promising them expedited naturalization. MAVNI was enacted after it was discovered that there weren’t enough native-born citizens who possessed these skills. Had there been, the military may have been able to prevent the 9/11 terror attacks, since intercepts had been received but couldn’t be interpreted.
MAVNI Expedited Naturalization Process
Naturalization through standard channels usually takes three to five years. However, through MAVNI, it often took only one year. The basic requirements to receive naturalization through MAVNI are the same as standard naturalization requirements except that, during this current “period of hostility” applicants:
- Need to serve honorably in active-duty reserve, or guard regimes, for any amount of time, or if separated from the US armed forces, has been separated honorably.
- Must be admitted as a permanent resident at any time after enlistment or induction, or physically present in the US or certain territories at the time of enlistment or induction.

Accelerated Process To Citizenship
There is recent history within the United States military to allow military members from foreign countries have an accelerated path to citizenship. This is somewhat true, however, the time to become a citizen is largely due to the Homeland Security Departmentand their capabilities.
The military cannot and will not assist in the immigration process. One must immigrate first, using normal immigration quotas and procedures, andonce they’ve established an address in the United Statesthey can find a recruiter’s office and apply for enlistment.
In 1990, in the early days of Gulf War One, President George H.W. Bush signed an executive order which allowed any military member to apply for citizenship, without any residency requirement. This saves the military member five years on the civilian applicant for citizenship so when you hear the military help you accelerate the process, this is what that means.
Since July 3, 2002, under special provisions in Section 329 of the INA, President Bush signed an executive order authorizing all non-citizens who have served honorably in the U.S. armed forces on or after Sept. 11, 2001, to immediately file for citizenship. This order also covers veterans of certain designated past wars and conflicts. The authorization will remain in effect until a date designated by a future presidential executive order.
