Military Star Rewards Mastercard Rewards Point Program
The Rewards Program for the MSRM is not the greatest, but certainly not the worst either. One point is issued for every dollar spent, except at Exchange locations , where 2 points per dollar is given.
These points can then be cashed out for a variety of rewards including:
- Cash back
- Exchange Rewards
Not as good a program as the ones I use. If you do a lot of your shopping on base, this could be a good option for you, when used responsibly .
The Friendly Military Star Card
There are numerous credit cards on the market. What you need is one that is military-friendly, and that understands the need for flexibility in use and repayment, as well as one that provides equal rewards and benefits. The star card offers a lower interest rate and several attractive reward and redeeming offers and promotions.
The Exchange Credit Program manages, oversees, and promotes the star credit card for military servicemembers and families. The starcard is geared toward obtaining the basic needs of the servicemember through the exchange. BX, PX, NEX, and MCX facilities and online AAFES stores accept a military star card payment. Commissaries and general vendors do not. Because it is for use at military facilities and online websites only, it may seem restrictive.
Although military ID is required when an AAFES star card purchase is made, AAFES employees are required to check military ID regardless of method of payment. Swipe the card, sign the payment slip, show your military ID and youâre on your way.
AAFES.com is the only online merchant that accepts a military star card payment. Membership and proof of military affiliation is required to shop at AAFES.com. Once you have selected the items you wish to purchase, enter your star card account number at the payment information screen.
Also enter your AAFES star card expiration date, and the security code found on the back of your card.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Travel Rewards
The Chase Sapphire Preferred has a nice array of travel partners, as well: United Airlines,Southwest,JetBlue and Hyatt are all on the list. These are all just the tip of the iceberg where this cards perks begin, but since were running out of space, lets jump to the possible drawbacks: This card isnt perfect, but theyre noticeably few compared to most of its peers. Some could say the $95 annual fee is one, but the welcome bonus should more than make up for it during your first year.
Others might consider the 2x points rewards rate for travel and dining a middle-of-the-road offering. The caveat to this one is the fact that the Chase Sapphire Preferreds travel category is pretty broad. Its purchase options include hotels, airlines, car rental agencies, discounted travel sites, timeshares, taxis, cruise lines, parking lots, and more.
Look, we love good old AAFES! Weve just heard of active duty personnel finding out that they could save 10% on a one-time purchaseand then leaping before theyd looked. Its nice to be able to save that $150 on a TV, PC, PlayStation, or Xbox.
With the Chase Sapphire Preferred, however, a cardholder could get what amounts to $900 in bonus points when they redeemed them for travel at the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal. We want to make sure we cover all of your bases because the final decision is your business! Choose wisely.
Star Credit Card Benefits And Drawbacks
The military star credit card is one of the best choices for those who want to earn rewards with no annual fee, who regularly shop at military exchanges or at AAFES online military retail sites, and for those who want to establish, improve, or work toward repairing their credit history and credit score.
On the other hand, this might not be the ideal credit card for you if you prefer earning travel miles or if you prefer more flexibility in where the card is accepted or how, when, and where rewards are redeemed.

Where Can You Pay Your Bill
You can pay your monthly bill online on the website, by calling the Exchange Credit Program Call Center, at your local Exchange, or mail in your payment. If you do not make your payments, your account becomes delinquent. If this happens, you might not be able to use your card or earn rewards, and the service members unit commander can be notified. In some cases, the delinquent balance may be involuntary collected.
Do You Need A Gold Star On Your Drivers License Or Id To Fly
You dont need a gold star on your drivers license or ID to fly today, but you will. Beginning May 3, 2023, federal agencies will no longer accept identification cards and driver licenses issued at the state level without stars on them for passengers older than 18 years old. This is an extension from the original October 2021 date due to the COVID pandemic.
Not everyone owns a federally issued passport, especially if they havent traveled internationally. For domestic flights, a state-issued document like a drivers license is all you need to fly.
However, according to a law called the REAL ID Act, air travelers in the United States will require a drivers license that complies with the Real ID requirements when traveling within the United States of America beginning May 3rd, 2023.
Other documents that people will be able to use are passports or their U.S. Military card. Most people use their license to get through security on domestic flights though.
This law means that your drivers license MUST comply with TSAs requirements for you to fly domestically. A complying license will have a star on it. Does yours?
The U.S. Congress introduced this law in 2005. It was one of the security measures put in place in the wake of one of the most significant attacks against the United States of America on its own land, 9/11.

Consumer Watch: Military Star Card Program Overhauled
Changes are coming to your Military Star card.
Gone is the option to redeem points for cash, but you’ll still earn points that can be redeemed for military exchange gift cards.
Today, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, which administers the exchange credit card program for all military exchanges, offers two credit cards.
One is its private label card, which is used only on military installations and did not previously earn points for purchases. With the new Military Star private label card, you will earn two points for every dollar spent wherever the card is accepted, which is mostly at military exchange facilities on installations and the exchange systems’ websites.
The points will be converted only into gift cards that can be spent at exchanges. Your interest rate and credit limit won’t change.
The other is the Military Star Rewards MasterCard, operated in conjunction with Chase a regular credit card that can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.
The Chase card offers 2 percent cash back on purchases at the exchanges, gas stations, commissaries, MWR merchants and online and 1 percent everywhere else. The points can be redeemed for cash, credit to your account, or exchange gift cards.
As of Sept. 30, AAFES no longer will offer the Chase Military Star Rewards MasterCard, although current customers can remain Chase customers with a newly issued card.
AAFES is ending its relationship with Chase to simplify its credit offerings, AAFES spokesman Chris Ward said.

How To Keep Your Military Id Card Safe
If you live or work on an installation, you may find yourself pulling out your military ID card several times a day. Make sure you put your card back into a wallet or badge holder not into a back pocket or thrown on the dashboard of your car.
If you dont live near an installation and only use military facilities a couple of times a year, then you may want to keep your military ID in a safe place at home instead of in your wallet. Store it with other important papers, like passports and Social Security cards.
If a local business offers a military discount with proof of affiliation, you may show your military ID card to the cashier, but for security reasons, never let a cashier photocopy your ID or take it from you.
Your ID is an important part of your military life. Keep it updated, safe and ready to use. And remember: If you ever have a question about military life, Military OneSource is here to back you up.
Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card 10x Point Offer
It gets better, though. Cardholders can get 10x miles on purchases made through Hotels.com/venture whenever they book a stay and then pay with their Venture Rewards. Thats compatible with the existing Hotels.com loyalty program, too. When you purchase 10 nights, you can tack on a free night, which comes out to a return of 10% or so. This ultimately comes out to a 20% ROI when you use both together.
The purchase-erasing redemption option lets you redeem points at a rate of $.01 each toward your eligible travel costs charged within the last 3 months . Theres no minimum amount, either. If you want, you can lose the price of the taxes for your domestic U.S. award tickets by redeeming 550-575 points to cover it.
If a Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card sounds like a good choice, wed recommend doing your homework. You definitely want to study their transfer partners to learn how you can get your best value. You could probably expect a transfer ratio around 2:1.5 . When you get overseas, there wont be any foreign transaction fees waiting for you, so this might be a decent vacation choice.
