Armys Asthma Policy For 2019
Things arent much easier if youre considering joining the Army.
Just like with the Navy, if you currently are being treated for asthma, its grounds for immediate disqualification from Army service.
However, if you havent had any Asthma symptoms past the age of 13, youre good to go.
If you have had Asthma past the age of 13, but do not currently have Asthma, you can still get in with a waiver.
The waiver process is similar to that of that Navy and requires you to take a Pulmonary Function Test.
In addition, your complete medical history regarding your Asthma will be examined, as well as your current condition.
OMK spoke with Sergeant Hewitt, an Army recruiter stationed out of Atlanta, GA, to get a more concrete answer on what would happen if you were diagnosed with Asthma while serving.
Heres what he had to say:
If you develop Asthma while serving in the Army, the soldier will be sent to the doctor for a full checkup.
A PFT will be conducted, and the doctor would make a recommendation to the Army as to your status.

Some Basics About Joining The Military
There are some general rules that apply no matter where you wish to apply Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force or Coast Guard. The first of these is the high school requirement. It is extremely rare for modern-day recruits to be accepted into the uniformed services without either a high school diploma or a GED or other equivalency .
A high school student struggling to decide whether to complete high school or quit school and enlist will soon learn that such a concept is an old-fashioned holdover concept from the mid-20th century and is NOT an option today. For best results, finish your high school program before enlisting. Those who have dropped out should expect to be required to get a GED and possibly attend community college classes as a condition of enlistment.
Those who wish to become officers should know that theres a basic, entry-level requirement for officer candidatesyou need a Bachelors degree to be accepted as an officer. There is also additional training required, but this happens after you are accepted into an officer program.
In order to be considered eligible to join any branch of military service, the following should generally apply:
- You must be a U.S. citizen. The Army and Air Force official sites include statements that the applicant must be a citizen or a legal permanent resident with a valid Green Card.
- You must be at least 17 years old.
- You must have a high school diploma .
- You must pass a physical.

Ukraine Wants Foreign Reinforcements Will American Civilians Fight
Scores of aspiring fighters have expressed on social media their interest in joining the fight against Russia in Ukraine. Most of those interviewed by Military.com claim to be U.S. veterans, some saying they are en route to Poland or packing their bags, though none of their stories could be verified. Others said they plan to go, but are awaiting their passports.
The wave of interest comes after social media posts from Ukrainian government offices, like embassies, began to offer any “foreigners willing to defend Ukraine” the opportunity to join an “International Legion of Territorial Defense.”
Hanna Maliar, Ukraine’s deputy minister of defense, said Monday that the country has received “thousands” of requests from foreigners to fight in their war.
While passing interest on social media is scant evidence of any widespread desire among Americans to fight for Ukraine, the rumblings suggest some may be gearing up to do just that.
A spokesman for the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, D.C., did not immediately respond to questions regarding the number of applications it had received as of Tuesday.
But experts warn that would-be volunteers should be aware that joining a volunteer brigade is risky and devoid of many of the protections Americans, especially veterans, would expect on the battlefield.

Navys Policy On Asthma In 2019
OMK spoke with Officer Mendoza, a Navy recruiter stationed in Atlanta, Georgia, about the Navys policy on Asthma.
Heres what he had to say:
Its definitely possible to get in the Navy if you were previously diagnosed, but it can be very difficult. For starters, if you currently have asthma, its not going to work out.
The military has a very strict policy on this if you are currently being treated for asthma, then you will not be able to serve.
In addition, any history of Asthma after the age of 13 will require a waiver.
The waiver process will happen at your Military Entrance Processing Station, or MEPS.
Before enlisting, youll be required to perform whats known as a pulmonary function test, or PFT.
A PFT is essentially a noninvasive test that shows how well your lungs work.
If you can pass this test, you can join the Navy.

You are having trouble keeping your insulin from being exposed to extreme temperatures. You are on active duty and constantly on the move, getting little sleep. Stress is high, and you hear gunshots as your unit prepares to move in on a terrorist cell.
