How To Pass The Asvab
As the ASVAB tests cover an individuals ability rather than what they may know or have learned, it wont be helpful to study topics addressed in the tests, and memorizing dates and lists wont help either.
To be successful on the ASVAB Test, applicants should get well prepared for the kind of questions they will be confronted with and the sort of information that will be referred to.
- ASVAB Study Guides Study Guides are developed usually over many years by research professionals, and these study guides will provide all sorts of useful information that would be hardly possible to find all by yourself. Study guides give you a wealth of useful tips and information in a structured format and are usually well worth the expense.
- ASVAB Practice Tests Practice tests are among the best ways to prepare for a quiz. The more practice tests you make, the better you will understand what to expect and you will get better used to deal with different sorts of questions used in quizzes.
- Set up a study plan You cannot start early enough in establishing a study plan. Examine all the different types of questions used on quizzes, and find out what you should concentrate on most. Set up a study schedule and spend the most time practicing the sort of questions and information that cause the most difficulty.
And most important, show up in good spirits, sleep well the night before test day, and make sure you arrive on time.

What Is The Tier Classification System
The Department of Defense uses a three-tiered system to classify potential recruits. The criteria for each tier relates to educational requirements. The tiers are:
Tier 1: Recruits with at least a high school diploma
Tier 2: Recruits with a GED
Tier 3: Recruits without a high school diploma or GED
Tier 2 recruits may move to Tier 1. To do so, they must earn at least 15 hours of college credit. However, some military recruiters recommend attempting to enlist as a Tier 2 recruit or complete the ASVAB test before enrolling in college courses to move to Tier 1.
The Department of Defense uses this system to prioritize recruiting applicants with higher credentials and whom they deem more likely to satisfy their initial military obligation. Based on this, the Department of Defense requires at least 90% of all recruits overall to be from Tier 1. Each branch of the military has their own requirements for the percentage of Tier 2 recruits they enlist each year. Most branches do not admit Tier 3 recruits unless under certain circumstances or they make special exceptions.

Can You Join The Military Without A High School Diploma
If you are considering joining the military, you might ask can you join the military without a high school diploma.
Every military branch has its own expectations for enlistment.
These expectations include age, physical ability, citizenship, and education level.
Education level is critical for many military jobs, and some jobs have higher expectations than others.
Also, every military branch has different education tiers for recruits.
While you can join the military without a high school diploma, you still need to complete the General Educational Development program or have college credits for consideration by military branches.
Each military branch has its own set of expectations for recruits.
Also, recruits fall into one of three educational tiers.
Tier I
Tier I are those with a high school diploma.
However, if you do not have a high school diploma but have at least 15-semester college credits, you fall into Tier I.
Typically, public and private universities require a high school diploma or GED for acceptance.
However, some community colleges and trade schools accept students without those credentials.
The most sought-after candidates for military service are those who fall into Tier I.
Also, those in this Tier compete for access to choice military jobs with higher expectations for educational background and ASVAB scores.
Tier II
Tier II includes those with a GED or an alternative school program certificate.
Ideally, those in Tier I get preference over Tier II.
Military Branches Limit How Many Can Enlist Without A High School Diploma
All branches of service restrict how many new recruits may enter military service each year without a high school diploma. According to some reports, this is due to statistics which tend to indicate a higher number of unsuccessful basic trainees come from backgrounds that do not include a diploma.
Those who want to enter the military as quickly as possible should know that they may technically qualify to serve, but their status as without a high school diploma may push their application to the following year if the quota for non-diploma holders has already been met.

Army Recruiting High School Dropouts Without Ged
James Joyner·Wednesday, September 21, 2005·
The Army is now allowing its recruiters to sign up high school dropouts who do not have a GED for the first time in years.
Army recruiters now have a wider pool to find future soldiers in. The Army is reaching out to a slice of Americaâs youth long ineligible to serve: non-high school graduates who donât have a General Equivalency Diploma.
When I saw the headline and read that introduction, my heart sank. Thankfully, I kept reading:
Recruiters can now go after that demographic through the âArmy Educations Plusâ option, the Army announced Tuesday. If an individual has been out of high school for at least six months, can pass a physical exam and the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, he or she may be eligible for help getting a GED.
The program allows recruiters to enlist a high school dropout, according to S. Douglas Smith, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. But the enlistee must have the GED before shipping off to basic training. The Army will pay for individuals to attend a course to prepare for the GED test and will cover the cost of taking the GED exam. Before attending the GED course on the Armyâs tab, the person must enlist into the Armyâs delayed entry program, Smith said.
The regular Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard are each offering this option, as of Tuesday.
Requirements For Ged Holders
There are additional requirements for GED holders that high school graduates do not need. All of the services strictly limit the number of high school dropouts who can enlist each year. It is because years of military enlistment statistics have shown that this category of enlistees fails to complete the entire first term of military service at about twice the rate of those with a high school diploma or those with college credits.
If you have a high school diploma or higher, you are categorized in Tier 1 classification, and if you have a GED without college credits, you are classified as Tier 2. However, if a student with a GED completes 15 college credits, that student is reclassified as Tier 1. The Tier 1 student has to perform in the 30th percentile and above on the ASVAB to be eligible for service. The Tier 2 student has to perform above the 50th percentile to be eligible for service.
The Air Force is the most strict on this matter. The Air Force allows less than one percent of annual enlistments to be recruits without a high school diploma. The Marines have the next highest standards. No more than five percent of Marine recruits can be GED-holders. The Army allows no more than ten percent each year, and the Navy limits GED enlistments to no more than five to ten percent each year.

Ged Requirements Per Military Branch
Joining the US Army is possible even if you dont have a high school or college diploma.
However, you will be required to meet certain qualifications to be considered eligible.
Recruits to the army are usually classified in three tiers:
Tier 1: Applicants who hold high school or college diplomas are generally categorized as tier one recruits.
Tier 2: GED holders without diplomas and high school dropouts are classified as tier 2.
Tier 3: No GED or High school diploma. This tier more or less doesnt exist anymore.
If you are a GED holder with no college or high school diploma, you can raise your rank to tier one by completing 15 college credits.
Army recruits with GED certificates must also perform in the mandatory Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test in order to enlist.
This test is meant to evaluate whether a recruit has sufficient cognitive ability to serve in the army.
It also enables the army to determine what occupations a recruit might be most suited to given their abilities.
Whereas army recruits with high school or college diplomas only need a score of 31 and above to qualify, GED army recruits are required to score 50 percent and above in order to enlist.
In addition to meeting these requirements, all GED applicants must meet all the age, citizenship, height and weight, tattoo policy, and legal requirements in order to be eligible to join the army.
In fact, the Air Force only recruits less than one percent of applicants.
Is The Asvab Test Hard
The P& P-ASVAB contains some very easy and very hard questions, but most are of average difficulty. The CAT-ASVAB software adjusts to your ability level and administers questions that are best suited for you. If you are above average ability, you will receive questions that are above average difficulty.

Age Requirements Are Supplemented By Education Requirements
In most cases, the minimum age a new recruit may enter military service is 17 . However, a high school diploma or GED is usually required. Some branches of service may, depending on recruiting issues at any given time, offer alternatives such as allowing a new recruit who has a GED with college credits. Having a GED may subject the enlistee to additional standards not applied to those who have high school diplomas.
If the applicant does not meet the stricter standards for GED holders without college coursework, it may be possible to enroll in college to earn additional credit hours. This may be required by the branch of service applied for so you will need to try again under different standards.
What Are The Requirements For Ged Holders

It’s important for all recruits to meet certain physical and legal requirements regardless of if they have a high school diploma or GED. These requirements may relate to:
Mental and moral aptitude
Number of dependents
ASVAB test scores are crucial for entrance to all military branches. Most branches accept Tier 1 recruits with ASVAB scores in or above the 30th percentile. However, most branches seek Tier 2 recruits with ASVAB scores in or above the 50the percentile. If you have a GED but have a lower ASVAB score, consider completing 15 hours of college credit so you may enlist based on Tier 1 requirements rather than Tier 2 requirements.
Here’s a closer look at the requirements for Tier 2 GED holders to enter each branch of the military and what percentage of Tier 2 GED holders each branch typically admits each year:

Where Can I Take The Asvab
ASVAB Testing is usually conducted at MEPS that includes both military and civilian staff.
All across the U.S you can find 65 MEPS, and in case you dont live close to one of these locations, the ASVAB test may also be taken a satellite location, a so-called MET site . These MET sites are usually located in a National Guard Armory at Federal government buildings, or at a National Reserve Center.
At MEPS, you are required to take the ASVAB on a computer , while at most MET facilities you must take the test in a paper-and-pencil format. The computer-based ASVAB, the CAT-ASVAB, is an adaptive examination, meaning the test will adapt to the test takers ability and knowledge level.
Therefore, this way of testing may be shorter than the paper and pencil way of testing. View here some army career fields.

Army Ged Plus Enlistment Program
The Army used to run a special enlistment program designed for disadvantaged youths who had neither a high school diploma or a GED. This program, called the Army GED Plus Enlistment Program, had enabled applicants who didn’t possess a high school diploma or a GED to be sponsored by the Army to obtain a GED for enlistment purposes.
The GED Plus Enlistment Program was only available in certain areas with high concentrations of disadvantaged youths, and the number of enrollees was limited. Those enrolling needed to score 50 or higher on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery test, score 46 or higher on the Assessment of Individual Motivation test, be at least 18 years old, and be in good moral standing.
The Army enrolled GED candidates at two locations: at Fort Jackson in South Carolina for the regular Army, and at Camp Robinson in Arkansas for the Army National Guard. Those who passed the GED exam proceeded directly to enrollment.
However, the Army no longer needs this program, since it is enlisting fewer active-duty soldiers overall. The program closed in 2013.
