Which Military Branch Should I Join
No military branch is better than the other, but certain branches might be better choices for individuals, depending on their interests, goals, and skills. If you are already a skilled pilot, for example, you may consider joining the Air Force, while those with plenty of experience on the water may be a good fit for the Navy. However, you dont need to possess any of these skills to join, as full training will be provided to you as an enlistee.
Can I Wear Contacts While Deployed
People deploying must contend with field conditions that may not allow for proper contact lens hygiene, and poor hygiene leads to an increase in eye abrasions, infections and ulcers, officials said. Continuous wearing of lenses without removal may cause inflammation, infection and permanent loss of vision.Apr 8, 2005.
Free Accommodation And Uniforms
Military members who are unmarried with no children are provided accommodation in barracks on the base. Sharing a single room entitles you to extra pay, and if you live off-base, you will receive a tax-free housing allowance. All active-duty military members are eligible for a tax-free monthly food allowance that can be used in both base dining halls and off-base. Recruits also receive a complete set of uniforms during their initial training and a clothing allowance to replace uniforms as they are worn.

Can You Back Out Of Military Training
A recruit can decide to quit the military before, during, or after basic training. However, leaving the military is not always easy. Recruits sign a contract with the government, which is hard to back out of after arriving for training.
Before training starts, recruits go through the Delayed Entry Program . This allows you to quit by filing a formal request. While the military is not required to accept the request, they typically do.
After training starts, the only way to quit is through entry-level separation. Recruits can leave service without penalty during their first 180 days of enlistment. The main caveat is that recruits cannot make the request themselves. An entry-level separation must be proposed by a commanding officer, a counselor, a military psychiatrist, or the military chaplain.
Ged Requirements Per Military Branch
Joining the US Army is possible even if you dont have a high school or college diploma.
However, you will be required to meet certain qualifications to be considered eligible.
Recruits to the army are usually classified in three tiers:
Tier 1: Applicants who hold high school or college diplomas are generally categorized as tier one recruits.
Tier 2: GED holders without diplomas and high school dropouts are classified as tier 2.
Tier 3: No GED or High school diploma. This tier more or less doesnt exist anymore.
If you are a GED holder with no college or high school diploma, you can raise your rank to tier one by completing 15 college credits.
Army recruits with GED certificates must also perform in the mandatory Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test in order to enlist.
This test is meant to evaluate whether a recruit has sufficient cognitive ability to serve in the army.
It also enables the army to determine what occupations a recruit might be most suited to given their abilities.
Whereas army recruits with high school or college diplomas only need a score of 31 and above to qualify, GED army recruits are required to score 50 percent and above in order to enlist.
In fact, the Air Force only recruits less than one percent of applicants.

Army High School Completion Program
The Army’s High School Completion Program is an off-duty program that provides soldiers and adult family members the opportunity to earn a high school diploma or equivalency certificate. Tuition Assistance is authorized for soldiers up to 100 percent of the cost of the courses leading to a high school diploma or the equivalent. The local Army Education Center can provide information on the availability of a resident HSCP on base, in the community, or through the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support external degree program.
Can I Join The Marines With A Ged
You can join the Marines with a GED. Is it as easy to join the Marines with a GED as it is with a high school diploma? No, it is much more difficult to join the Marines with a GED compared to a high school diploma.
As of 2015, when you apply to join the Marines, your education qualifications will determine if you are a Tier 1 candidate or a Tier 2 candidate. Applicants with a high school diploma fall into the Tier 1 category as long as they are in the 31st percentile or above on their AFQT . Applicants with a GED automatically fall into the Tier 2 category and must score in the 50th percentile or above on the AFQT to qualify. Just because you qualify doesnt necessarily mean there will be an opening for you. However, if you have a GED and have earned 15 semester hours or more of college courses you can obtain the Tier 1 status. Tier 1 candidates get first pick on open positions, while Tier 2 candidates can apply for any open positions that are left.
The military is not allowed to accept more than 10 percent of individuals with a GED, and each branch of the military sets its own limit, which is generally less than that 10 percent. Military statistics have shown that people who dropped out of high school tend to drop out of the military in their first term at a higher percentage than those with a high school diploma.
Good luck to all!

Getting Into Another Branch
Sometimes people who have signed up for the DEP of one branch of the military decide they want to be in a different branch instead. Because a person is only allowed to be in one branch of the service at a time, a DEP member who wants to change branches must be discharged before he or she can sign another contract. Because many recruiters leave people in the DEP for the entire year allowed, this presents a problem when people are in a hurry to join another branch. One avenue to speed up the process of getting out is to submit a letter asking for release. Telling the recruiter that you are interested in joining a different branch of the military may cause the recruiter to delay your release as long as possible, knowing that you cant join another branch until you are released
If after 2-3 weeks of asking for discharge in writing there is no satisfactory reply, a person can contact their local congressional office and ask that an inquiry be done into status of their separation request.
Can I Join The Marine Corps At 17 With A Ged
If you want to be enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident and be in the age range 17-28. If you are holding a GED instead of a high school diploma, you are required to pass the ASVAB test with a score of at least 50. In the years 2006-2013, the U.S. National Guard operated the GED Plus Program for applicants who hadnt completed high school.
17-year-old applicants must hold parental consent and it goes without saying that the higher your ASVAB score is, the better your chances will be to get enlisted. Additionally, all applicants are required to meet physical requirements.
To improve your chances of getting enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, you can also enroll at your local community college and complete 15 credits or more. If you do that, youll be moved from the 2nd recruits tier into the first together with all those recruits that already hold a high school degree.
Herein lies the reason that sometimes, students prefer to enroll in an online high school diploma program such as offered by Acellus Academy in Kansas City, Missouri.
Read also this post about joining the U.S. Army with a GED. Youll learn that the Army only allows some fifteen percent of recruits to hold a GED diploma! We see that getting a good education is the primary reason why people want to join the military.

Dropping Out Of College To Join The Air Force
College for me started off great. But as time went on i ran into issues being away from home and not having that support system for the first time. So i got an overnight job that paid a lot of money which did well for me financially but my grades took a huge hit. Now im down to a 2.2 gpa in my second year in a junior college and im slowly feeling demotivated, because i know a university wont accept me with a gpa that low. so i was thinking about enlisting in the air force to get a ccaf degree and transferring to a uni. A second start?
Are you ready to go to war?
How about if you take time off and work for awhile and try CC again? You can try and try and try as often as you like. This is not a race.
My nephew is in the Air Force so that he can take advantage of the GI Bill. If you are having trouble being away from home now, thats not going to change in the AF, and in fact, youll likely get home even less often, since youll have no say in when or for how long you can go. If you have trouble staying motivated now, how do you figure youll do when being ordered to perform tasks youve no interest in doing , but must or be disciplined. Are you ready to end up with a job you dont want, on a shift you dont want, eating only when youre told, taking breaks, if at all, only when youre told, etc.? And lets not minimize the fact you could be sent to war.

Be warned that even if you’re in top physical condition, boot camp training is rigorous and difficult beyond most recruits’ expectations.

Do You Have To Have A Ged To Join The Military
You must, however, have a GED certificate. The military only enlists a small amount of GED candidates each year based on a percentage of the total number of people enlisting. When Is It Too Late
Part of the enlistment process includes going to the MEPS for a physical and swearing in to the DEP and filling out part of the contract . People who have taken these steps can still get out of the DEP using methods described above.
Eventually a persons time in the DEP ends and the transition to active duty for training begins. On the date when a person is scheduled to report for basic training, they will normally be instructed to return to the MEPS and swear in a second time while they sign the last sheet of the military enlistment contract which states that the person wishes to be discharged from the Delayed Entry/Enlistment Program and enlisted in the Regular Component.
Up until that final point of the second swear in and signing of the last page of the contract, people have been able to get out of the DEP by simply refusing to go. Once a person has sworn in the second time as part of shipping out they may still be able to get out of the military, but it will involve much more time and energy. People who believe they are in this status can contact a GI Rights Counselor at 877 447 4487 to determine what options they have.
What Is The Delayed Entry Program And Can I Get Out Of It
Information current as of March 2018
NOTE: If your US citizenship is conditional upon serving in the US military, your status could be affected by ANY separation or discharge from the military. We encourage service members in this situation to contact an immigration attorney for assistance and advice. You can request free legal counsel from the American Immigration Lawyers Association Military Assistance Program.
Most people who enlist join through the Delayed Entry Program sometimes called the Future Soldiers Program. This allows someone to sign up for the military prior to the date when they will ship out for initial training. People in the DEP are unpaid and are not subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, UCMJ.
After Joining the DEP, Some People change their Minds. During the delay before leaving for basic training some people feel they were pressured into something they werent sure about. Others have life changesperhaps they decide to go to college, get married, or they get their dream job. They no longer wish to be locked into years of military service. Because the DEP is the easiest phase to get out of the military, it a critical time for anyone having second thoughts to give serious consideration to whether they truly belong in the military.

Medical Discharge For Depression
Just like you can get a medical discharge from marine boot camp with a physical ailment, you can also get a medical discharge for depression or other serious mental conditions. Basically, you can be discharged for any serious mental illness that would prevent you from being able to perform your duty. This typically includes hallucinations, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, sever PTSD and suicidal thoughts.
How Does Someone Get Out Of The Delayed Entry Program
One easy way to get out of the DEP is to do nothing. Simply not reporting on the day the person is scheduled to ship out sends the strongest signal to recruiters and military personnel that the person is no longer willing to become a member of the armed forces. If you are planning not to report on the ship date, it is not necessary to notify the military ahead of timeof that decision. People are separated for not reporting whether or not they have given prior notice. This is the most commonly chosen way of getting out of the DEP.
Some people feel more comfortable contacting recruiters and asking to be released from the DEP before their ship date comes. Many feel that they owe the recruiter the courtesy of notifying them that they have changed their mind so that the recruiter can spend his or her time elsewhere. Some people feel it is more official to send a formal letter asking to be discharged.
It is not necessary to write a letter or give an explanation for the change in mind.
For those who choose to write a letter, be aware that notifying the recruiter signals to them that it is time to step up their pressure. If you tell them you changed your mind, the recruiter and/or their commander are instructed to try to resell you on enlistment. Many people report seeing a less friendly side of recruiters after informing them they have changed their plans.
